New Infliximab infusion :(

Hiya all

Ive recently started an Infliximab Infusion at Torbay Hospital. I have to go there every 8 weeks for 5 or 6 hours. The nurses are saying it's a built up effect and will start to work after a few treatments.

Is anyone else on this infusion?
How long did it take to work?
Are there any other problems that come with it?

I was on Infliximab for 1 and half years.

Pen is right, it's the same as Remicide, as described in the other thread.

I found relief about 2 weeks after my first infusion. Then I would go into a cycle. About 1 week before the infusion and 1 week after, I would get symptoms.

I had no side effects while I was on it, but unfortunatly, I had a small seizure while getting my last infusion, so I was taken off it.

Healthwise, it was the best 1 and half years I'd had in a very long time.

Remicade has worked wonders for me. I have never had any side effects. I started seeimg my symptoms get better after about two weeks of my first dose. I had been in a constant flare for years prior to starting Remi and now I am in "remission". I hope it works as well for you

Hi Elle I have been on Infliximab for 18 months and has changed my life, it took about 4 infusions before I really noticed a difference. I have mine every 8 weeks and would notice that the week before I would start to have a few troubles with my bowel and then after 2-3 days of the infusion would be a lot better. You also have to have a good diet as this helps. I am also on Methatrexate which I take weekly and found that if I took that on the same day of the Infiximab I would have very bad diarreah so now avoid the infusion on the same day, a day either side I am well. I have had crohns for 22 years and over the last 2 years, with 4 ops in that time the last was last January. I have studied diets and medication a lot over the last 18 months and now am a new man. I am lucky to have great support from my wife since I was diagnosed and also have a great IBD specialist nurse and gastro Dr. Please feel free to ask if you need any more help, advise or support.
