Advice please. Starting to leak again...

Hi all
I had a very large perineal abscess removed on a June 18th.....my transsphincteric fistula op is due on September 18th.....

The closure of the abscess site took about 6 weeks to heal, I stopped wearing dressing on it about 3 weeks ago. It was fine, clean and no trouble until yesterday.....
I noticed some blood spotting in my undies yesterday, today I've noticed discharge/puss spotting from it and the scar area feels uncomfy.

Any thoughts?

I have an area in my groin that was drained. It was dressed and healed. Its now draining a bit. The nurse said to keep it cleaned and covered. I didn't have a fistula. It may be nothing but I'd give the doctor a call.

I was taken in via A&E as the abscess had started to burst - the MRI I had showed the fistula as well as the abscess - the plan was to operate on both - however when I came round they explained that the fistula was too tricky to operate on ( they would rather a specialist surgeon do it as it's a transsphincteric fistula, rather than a general surgeon)

So I had the abscess removed, which was left open and packed for 5 weeks .

I believe the fistula was there first ( as I was already seeing the doctor for constipation issues and cramps ) so yes, in my opinion the fistula is what caused the abscess rather than vice versa....

I'm worried that the abscess is reforming as I'm getting a tingling feeling on the scar tissue area...

My partner has looked at the site, and he says he can see small amounts of blood coming from the scar area -

I have contacted my general doctor, however I can't see him until Tuesday!

It is very possible that it is reforming. As long as the fistula is there it can continue to drain and form abscesses. It is wise to have a colorectal surgeon take care of it. Maybe they can get you on antibiotics?

The doctor prescribed antibiotics over the phone today which I've started.....as it's a bank holiday here so I can't see him until Tuesday..... So you and him are thinking on the same path - thankyou so much for listening xx xx

Sazzle, Based on my experience to date with Perianal Abscesses following the I & D of my abscess fistulas develop following surgery & they tend to discharge blood & pus & the scar area will usually be very tender. I now have a third fistula awaiting seton placement in September. It has developed following the drainage of an abscess in April. Some days it is very tender & uncomfortable.
