I like this Mat Lalonde guy.

I don't understand why he'd recommend Tubers and not fruit though. Eliminate nuts and seeds?

Tubers are glucose, and fruit fructose which has to be processed by the liver.

Nuts and seeds if tolerated?

hugh,

Is that something you follow (eating tubers)? I may give sweet potatoes a shot. I just thought that was against paleo/SCD.

It is against SCD, very much so....
Carb restriction may be very helpful for bringing Gut bacteria back under control

.....but Paleo is a very broad churh :)
The VLC (very low carb) paleo would string you up as a heretic if you mentioned potatoes.......

The mainstream 'more science based' paleo diet is usually low to medium carb. (there was actually a fairly major 'reformation' in the paleo world recently with Dr Paul Jaminet and Dr. Ron Rosedale slogging it out in polite debate on the place of carbs in a healthy diet.[1])
Paul recognises that our ancestors would have prised carbohydrates, but would have had a much more restricted access to them.

The 'new paleo' attitude is that carbs are fine if they are paleo carbs, but you need to take your own personal health into consideration.
If you have blood sugar issues or are overweight then 'paleo' would say less carbs. If you have gut issues then no potatoes (glycoalcaloids and nightshade family).
I eat any tubers (including potatoes) and i also eat white rice as it is considered (in some paleo circles) to be virtually toxin free.
I bake with tapioca flour too

The Paleo diet is not necessarily a low-carb diet, but it does contain fewer carbohydrates compared to the standard American diet.

Are you on medication?

sorry, i had a feeling that was funny but i am willing to concede that i may have been wrong..........

No meds for a while
LOL

No, it was a serious question. I had a couple bites of sweet potato yesterday. I didn't even like the taste of it. Did not seem to bother me though. My gut rumbled at little bit, but that could have been from something else.

Hugh,

Are there specific types of rice and potatoes that you eat?
Just to stress - we are all individual, introduce any new foods one at a time....
If you are not missing them then you may not want to change what is working...

When i started paleo i started as a medium-low carb, - sweet potatoes, yams, squash etc. no problems

When i introduced potatoes i had issues (weird tingling in my legs and lots of snot) so i tried again a couple of times over a few months and nearly two years in i had no issues with potatoes......
Now I eat any white rice (after almost 2 years absence), i eat rice noodles and rice crackers too. no problems for me.
I stick to organic potatoes but any rice.
