Hello there. My name is Paul and i was just diagnosed with Crohns 2 days ago, I have had bowel problems for a few years, and underwent lots of tests (colonoscopy, endoscopy, blood tests, CT scan, SEHCAT) Originally i was diagnosed with severe malabsorption and put on Questran sachets, but i went up to the highest dose and it didnt improve. I went to see another specialist and told them of my other symptoms, aching hips and knees, cuts and sores on the side of my mouth, itching and pain around the anus, and strangely sores on my head!

All the tests i previously had showed me negative for crohns, but faced with all this they have given me a diagnosis of crohns, although they couldnt say why they had missed it before. At the moment i am on a course of steroids (prednisone) and calcium tablets.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had an experience like this, as it seems very strange that it hasnt been picked up before this.

Many thanks for your help,

Paul

Welcome to the forum. Many of the members here have similar stories as yours. Crohn's, IBD, etc. are hard to diagnose. It often takes quite a bit of lets run these tests and but judging by your symptoms it seems like you have Crohn's.

How are you feeling? I have to say I hate Prednisone. I'm on it right now and have very bad back pain and I can't sleep very much at all. i just have too much energy although as I'm typing this my eyes are rolling in the back of my head. I wish you the best of luck. What's your plan of action after pred?

Good luck

hi Paul, & welcome :)

i'd agree with Jeff. because Crohns gives so many different and strange symptoms, it is really hard to diagnose confidently if you don't also have the typical appearance of Crohns in the intestinal tract.

however, the most important thing is getting you feeling better, so if the treatment you're on is helping, then i guess you can assume it is Crohns, but not worry too much about the question marks over the diagnosis.

i haven't ever had the other symptoms that you describe, and which many members on here have suffered, such as cuts, sores etc.. but i do have poor absorption and very achey limbs.

i hope you're on the right track now.

Thanks for your reply Jeff. At the moment Im on a dose of 40mg but i only started on Friday so nothing really has happened as yet. Luckily it seems like no side efects so far, but its only early days. As for what i do after the medication, well im not sure I suppose it depends upon the success and what my specialist thinks.

Sorry to hear about your sleep problems, hopefully they will start to even out so you can atleast get some rest.

Take care
