2nd edition story.

I have Crohn's disease. So where do I start?
Around christmas time i started getting pains in my lower abdomen kind of like when you get bad gas but it was tolerable. Into around mid January it started to get worse and unconfortable enough to just be struggling just to get through work. I went to my doctor and he just gave me some drugs that could help with minor IBS. I started those and they did absolutely nothing, the pain was still there and has gotten even worse. After that my doctor put me through to a gastroenterologist to see if she could help me.
She said getting a colonoscopy would be the best thing for me to get to see whats going on. I had it done Feb 4th and then followed up with her a few weeks later. In the meantime the pain got so bad that I went to my regular doctor and got perscribed percocets for it(the addiction to those wonderfull percocets is another story). When I followed up with the specialist she said it was most likely acute Crohn's which has formed at the end of my small intestine(the ileum) and perscribed antibiotics and a steroidal anti-inflamatory drug.(Budesonide). I started taking those and it seemed to be working good for a few weeks until Feb 28th right after Crosby scored the winning goal for Canada I dropped to the ground in extreme pain and was rushed to emergency.
I was immidiately hooked up to IV and painkillers and had many different scans and blood tests done. It turned out the inflammed area of my intestine fissured through my intestine wall and was absessing. I stayed in the hospital for 17 days recovering on many drugs including prednisone, and lots of antibiotics. I left the hospital fealing great and ready to get back to my regular life. At home I kept on prednisone(a savage steroid anti-inflamatory) and started another drug to try and keep me in remission(when the Crohn's isn't flaring).
Everything was going good until about mid April when I awoke at 2am in the worst pain I've ever experienced in my life. I could describe it as someone stabbing and scraping the inside of my intestine with a knife then putting salt and vinegar on it. I instantly knew I had to go to the hospital immediatley. It took me 5 minutes to get to the car from my house which is about 20 feet away. When I got there I was hooked up again to IV and a massive amount of painkillers to get out of the torture that I was in. I had a few scans and the emergency room doctor came to me and explained that my intestine fissured through again and was absessing liquid and air into my abdominal cavity and said it would be the best idea to have emergency surgury to fix the situation. I agree'd and was wheeled into the OR.
I awoke to my mom and sister next to me and then passed out cause of the painkillers I was on which was self distributable which was dope. The next few days was a blur but when I came to to a sober state i talked to my Surgeon and he explained to me he removed 28cm of intestine(around a foot for you imperial users). The intestine was extremely diseased with inflammation scarring and fissuring throughout. I got released a week later with pain killers and now its been just over a month since I got out and I'm fealign absolutely great. My appitite is back and I'm going out with friends again.
I am also starting imuran next week to keep me in remission.
PS. I wrote this for another forum thats why I added some explanations about prednisone ect.

Hi Zalanicht and :welcome:

So good to hear you are on top of things and feeling great. Roo also had a chunk of her terminal ileum removed and has been in remission with the help of Imuran for 4 years. Glad you could join us and best of luck with your continuing journey.

That's great to hear your daughter "maybe, silly aussie lingo lol" is in remission with Imuran after her surgery. Good news for my ears cause I'm about to start Imuran.

Welcome Zalanich and Canadian crohnie! You had a rough journey and so glad a doctor took the bull by the horns and took out the diseased area. Oxycocet and percs are hard to get in our area, and very addictive. I know a few people on imuran and they did well, I did not but everyone is different. Glad you found us, thanks for sharing your story with us. We can learn from you too! Welcome aboard!

I'm curious to what NSAIDS she gave me? Budesonide is a NSAID? And Are NSAIDS not the same as 5asa's?

"I went to my doctor and he just gave me some drugs that could help with minor IBS. I started those and they did absolutely nothing, the pain was still there and has gotten even worse." That part? If so it was my regular doctor not the specialist who didn't know what was going on yet so he gave me a proton pump inhibitor and buscopan.(spelling). Now I think back I don't think buscopan was a good idea.

Hiya Zal

not familiar with buscopan cant help there
but Budesonide (Entocort) is not an NSAID, it is a corticosteroid, a 10% derivitive of Prednisolone.
NSAIDS are Advil, Ibuprofen, etc
5azas are amnio salycylates, ie mesalazine like Pentasa, Asacol
I don't know what she gave you, but if it was an NSAID, she wants to go back to medical school!
