overwhelmed with life

I have Crohn's disease and spend almost 3 full months in the hospital earlier this year. During that time my life literally stopped for a while. I have been out now for about 5 months and life is back to normal. College, work, two little boys who are active, wonderful, and exhausting with homework and sports! Not to mention, the day to day struggles after a bowel resection and active Crohn's disease. I'm a single mom too but I have a very supportive family and boyfriend. I just can't seem to get my feet back under me. I'm tired all the time. My house is an overwhelming wreck. I have too much homework and can barely make it to my job 3 times a week.... I honestly find myself wishing I was back in the hospital sometimes, where absolutely nothing was expected of me. I'm sad and depressed that I'm even thinking like that. Of course I don't actually want to be that sick again and don't want to go back.... I just feel like the whole world is spinning around me so fast I can't keep up. Everything seems blurry and impossible. Any advice?

Sounds like you need to ask for some help. Can your family or boyfriend help you with the housework and the kids? I just started college too and am finding it hard to juggle the house, kids, boyfriend, social life thing. I finally just sat everyone down and said that we need to work together to get things back to normal. So far, it's worked beautifully! We each have our tasks to do (for example, I cook on my days off, and my bf cooks on the other days, or we order in if we're both too tired...lol).

Good luck to you!

Hello lacibug and fellow Texan. Welcome to the forum. What meds are you on? Did they try you on different meds while in the hospital? You do have your hands full. I agree with Nyx that everyone needs to pitch in on the housework to help you out. How old are your boys? Even little ones can do small a task to help out mommy. If possible a regular schedule might help. I know that's hard when everyone is on the run. I use to have dinner at 9 pm when my son was young and in football. I use to keep a "cleaning" schedule. Certain things on certain days, and it did help keep my house a litte cleaner. I can relate with you tho my house work was lacking when my kids where young. Take care of yourself and try to get plenty of sleep. Nobodys happy if momma aint happy. Eveyone here gets depressed sometimes and some have found help with medication. Hang in there good days are ahead.

Hi Laci,

Are you on B12 injections and any other supplements since having your small bowel resection? Also when was the last time you had bloods done for B12, Folate and Iron Stores?

Dusty.

I think it's normal to wish that you were back in the hospital. For me, every time I had a long hospital stay, I hated it while I was in the hospital but as soon as I went home, it seemed like everyone acted like I was all better and that I could easily do all the things I used to but that's not the case. The first couple of weeks back home I'd wish I was back in the hospital. I agree that you need help and that you should be vocal about how you're feeling as well. Just cause we're back home now doesn't mean we're back to normal cause when you're in the hospital, you're in bed most of the time which saps you of all your energy and its going to take a while to get your strength back. As suggested, get help with the house work, also someone else to take your kids to their sports games (that's what it sounded like to me), basically anywhere where you think someone could help you out, ask them to even if its watching the kids while you do your homework.

Hi Lacibug, if I havent welcomed you , I am now! I was about your age guessing on the 34 end of your name, I was a single mom and had a daughter who was scared and an only child. I fought through an ugly divorce and because I was sick alot my ex tried to get custody. It was the worst time in my life, but I had my first resection and felt better and had some (very little) famiy support. Yes, I had my dark days, and busy life, but it got better and having a good supportive husband now, it made it all worth while. Some how you have to pick your self up. Dont worry about the house, I used to and that was stress...I was a clean fanatic, NOT any more and my husband cooks, so there is only him and I in the house now. Try not to be a supermom because in the end it really doesnt matter! You matter and your kids need you. Take a day or a time out, you really need to do this ok. Big hugs and come join us for a few laughs and support.

Hi lacibug
and welcome

I've been there, tons of times, even with support! Know how you feel! My advice? Just stop! Don't do anything! Lie down and watch the telly! Everyone will soon start flapping! I know your kids will be little, so was mine, but I soon had them working! Not down the pits tho!! lol
Everyone had a chore to do, with me cracking the whip! Stress is a killer, it will creep up before you know it, you're ill hun, you need to rest, you've been in hospital for 3 months!!!!
Now it's time for Mum Time! You deserve that much! In the meantime, come on here for some belly laughs, you're gonna do ok!
lotsa luv
