Back pain and Crohn's

I have been having backpain for the past 6 monthes. I have had crohns for 8 years now and have been in remission for the last 5, however my lower back is killing me. I am going on 50 and a little overweight however i don't feel like doing alot of things anymore. I asked my Dr. if it could be related to crohns and he said usually only if I am having a flare up and which I am not. I have had 2 shots in lower back, physical therapy and now a chiropractor but nothing seems to help. Is anyone out there have the same issues I would really like to know what to do next. Thanks

I can't help either. I've had many Crohn's problems, but never chronic back problems. Sure, I've had random back issues over the years from bending the wrong way, but nothing that didn't heal in a week or two of agony.

Of course, many people have back pain without Crohn's so this could be unrelated.

In one of my rare back problems I mentioned above, I could hardly move for days, so I understand the agony. I just want to wish you good luck getting this solved.

hi, my daughter has been out of hospital since last thursday after a massive flair up.
she now has backpains as well and is def. related to crohns as she never had anything like it. we're seing the specialist soon to find out more about it, tried to ring the hospital today but as it's a public holiday there are no specialists working.
she is in a lot of pain and even stomach pains. she feels worn out and does not feel like doing anything, not even eating. as a result she has lost about 10 kilos in the last 10 days.
it hurts watching your girl going through this and you feel so powerless...

I wanted to welcome you to the forum. I can relate to your pain. I started having the lower back pains several years before I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. The pains really put a damper on things. Please check out the many wonderful threads. We look forward to getting to know you better.

I was suffering with lower back pains late last year, after visiting my gp i was convinced it was a trapped nerve as the pain seemed to come on only at specific points when moving, however after leaving it i soon foud it was a flare up of my crohn's... and this was the only symptom. I ended up having a major surgery with lots of bowel removed and the risk of having a colostomy bag for life. At 18 this thought was daunting. I would advise you get in cotact with your gastro team just to check up, possibly have a colonoscopy as i would wish nobody to be in the state i was in after leaving it too long.

Hi and welcome, I was having back pain in my lower back for a few years I couldnt walk properly or sit down without being in agony, the pain was also in my butt cheeks and tops of my legs, after a lot of appointments and a MRI I was told I had arthritis in my sacreatic joint (cant spell) and that this was due to my Crohns, I was given cortosone injections into it while having a ct scan, this was agony, and have only had a little bit of pain since!! I would def get it checked out x

I just wanted to thank everyone who answered my question. I think I am going to really like this sight.

I have lower back pains like you wouldn't believe lol. Well I have Scoliosis and spondylolisthesis not related to IBD. Lifting weights help reduce the pain so much. I suggest having your doctor take xrays and or cat scan to find out. Then get to the gym and start lifting! lol It helps.
