Default Depression & Turmeric

As I mentioned in another thread, I have had depression problems since my teens.

For some reason that I could not explain my depression went away when I started having problems related to Crohn's disease. This seemed so illogical since when you are sick as a dog and wondering if you are going to live. (undiagnosed at that point). It would seem that this would bring the depression on in spades.

That never happened, and for about three years now I have not had any more episodes of this. Maybe three months before my Crohn's but never longer. I had a theory that maybe I killed a bacteria or virus that caused it with my frequency treatments.

Well now I have a more solid explanation that is backed by some Chinese research.

It seems that Turmeric can help depression problems according to some Chinese studies. I have scoured the internet about all the benefits of Turmeric but have somehow missed these ones. I found them on another health forum by accident.

When I started getting my symptoms I also upped my dose of Ginger and Curcummin (extract of Turmeric) in the hopes of easing my symptoms and killing bad bacteria that I thought may be causing my symptoms. No diagnosis at this point so it was my best guess at what to do. This coincides with the loss of my depression problems. A couple of months ago I switched to Turmeric in its natural form because it was supposedly a better form for killing bacteria. It does not seem to matter since I have used both.

I do not know how reliable Chinese studies are but they certainly know the effects of herbs better than the western world. Since I know of at least two people on this forum who also suffer from depression I thought this would be of interest.

If you try it be sure to start out on a smaller dose to begin with since Crohn's may not play well with it. Since I use Ginger with it, this may help me tolerate it better.
If it works, it is one heck of a lot better than the alternatives.

Here are the studies.

That seems pretty cool. Good job with the research.

Can't take the credit for the research. I copied someone else's links who found the studies. Purely accidental on my part. Still is not proof positive, but I know it is gone and do not have a better explanation.

Maybe i will quit taking it for awhile and see what happens. I really do not want to since it is an anti inflammatory but my curiosity may get the best of me.

I missed my doses of Ginger, Turmeric and Primal Defense on the 4th of July due to the fact we were gone all day long. Today I went into the depression funk for the first time in about three years. To make it even more joyous, I had a bout of the big D also. Apparently I should not slack on my herbs.

I loaded up on it once I realized what was happening, and it is not real obvious until you really think about it. Basically everything seems bleak and hopeless for no particular reason. No ambition whatsoever. I was pissed when I figure it out.

I have been taking just plain old Turmeric lately instead of Turmeric extract Curcumin 95% standardized. I think that was a mistake as I have missed a day with the extract before with no ill effects. I think the Turmeric is barely enough to do the job unless I take way more. I have ordered more standardized Curcumin as I do not need both Crohn's and Depression.

Of course all of this is merely my speculation on the cause and effect of the Turmeric products. It may be hogwash in the end. But I will get more proof with time. I do not have a better theory at this time.

Just in case anyone wants to try this, here are the amounts that seem to work for me.

Curcumin 95% standardized. May also be called Turmeric 95% standardized.

1000 MG twice a day with food. I also take approximately the same amount of Ginger with the Turmeric for absorption and more anti inflammatory effects.

I just hope this is gone when I wake up tomorrow.

The depression was gone the next day by the afternoon. Usually lasts a few days or even weeks. Unusual to be rid of it this quickly. I now realize that I like Crohn's much more than depression. Hard to function at any level when you are out of it mentally.

I bought some Turmeric extract tincture since they were out of the standardized type. Seems to work OK but I have to drink it with water and it is not the best tasting stuff. I ordered some of the capsules I used before but I was not going to wait for them.

We will see if I ever get it again while taking the Turmeric extract tincture or the standardized extract in capsule form. I do not think I will skip anymore as it seemed to also screw up my guts. Either that or I got a bug of some kind.

Painted a good chunk of the basement yesterday and did not even whine about it.
That is a sure sign the depression is gone as I despise painting.

Started some new frequency experiments today. I will post if anything comes of it.
The usual results are a hundred failures for one success. But the successes are usually quite astounding.
