BioDr. James has been living in St. Louis with his family for the past 14 years. He graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York with honors and distinction before receiving his medical training in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at Washington University School of Medicine. Throughout his education, he authored numerous medical manuscripts and received numerous awards related to academic performance and teaching excellence.

At Chesterfield Valley Gastroenterology, he specializes in many common and rare disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and liver including Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and liver disorders, such as fatty liver and hepatitis C. He is also regarded as an expert at the integration of natural and traditional methods to achieve digestive health, and has been featured as such in Woman’s World Magazine on several occasions.

He is a skilled endoscopist, and performs upper endoscopy (EGD) and colonoscopy. His polyp detection and removal rate for screening and therapeutic colonoscopy is rated as superior by gastrointestinal and insurance criteria. He has also performed more infrared coagulation (IRC) procedures for the destruction of internal hemorrhoids in the Saint Louis area than any other Gastroenterologist.

In 2010, he authored the international hit, The Complete Idiot’s Guide® to Digestive Health, published by Penguin Publishing Group, which provides an easy-to-read and informative guide to digestive health, diseases, and treatments.

His other interests include spending time with his wonderful family, sons Andrew and Joshie, daughter Emily, and wife, Helen; playing and listening to a variety of musical styles; and homebrewing.

Together with his wife, Helen Kim-James MD, and his colleague, Dr. Michael Presti, he is the co-founder of the health company, Enteral Health and Nutrition, LLC, a St. Louis based company providing natural support for digestive and skin health.

Dr. James is very friendly, actually listens to what you have to say, and encourages patient advocacy. If you choose to try an herbal/holistic remedy and approach, he'll go over the pros and cons with you. Not once in the last three years as one of his patients has he ever rushed me out the door. He takes his time with you and ensures that there's no other problems, symptoms or questions to be discussed.

Dr. James is also wonderful about giving me samples of probiotics- like Align and samples of a newer mesalamine called Apriso, due to their expensive nature.

He's also efficient and courteous at all times. In fact, he talks with you more like a friend than physician to patient. He does his utmost to make you feel comfortable in his presence, and his office staff are the same. I would recommend Dr. James to anyone, and I'd certainly refer any of my friends, family members and coworkers to this wonderful doctor!
