Ive been put on steroids for 3 months.. I am very skinny, will this help me gain weight over the next 3 months?

Hi Ben... Well, that depends... How much do the pills weigh? ;-) Seriously, the effect (side effect) of steroids is commonly increased appetite. If you directly benefit (the steroids improve your condition) you may be able to eat more. Now, what you eat, feeling the urge to eat more, and your condition improving, might result in you gaining weight. Mal absorption issues, or eating the wrong stuff, may mean that you don't gain weight. Are you on a diet, or watching what you eat? Eating empty calories isn't wise when you've got IBD.

When I was on 60 mg steroids I gained weight; but as soon as I finished my 3 months course I'm back again to my skinny self.

Now i am on 40 mg, and haven't gained a pound!!!

I usually do! Just a few pounds, makes my appetite ravenous! lol! Which isnt good when your on an elemental diet! lol! But i seemed to keep mine on - much to my dissaproval!

(I can alwasy do with loosing a few pounds, but gives me plenty in 'reserve' i suppose!)

when im on high dosages or it 80,60,40 i dont gain weight i actually lose but when im on say 20,15,10, or 5 i am hungry 24/7. Very strange i have doctors baffled. Did however get acne, hair growth, bruise easily, no moon face. I love the steriods they work for a while but then stop. It helps with my diaherra so i lover steriods it is terrible to say but i dont have to run to the bathroom 12-15 times.

Been taking steriods on an off varying from 10mg to 40mg. I found that they do give me an appetite but the Crohns' puts that in check still being sick and lots of 'D' so very little or no weight gain. (probably just stablises my weight) I do quickly get a moon face tho as my pic shows

and spots...

If I am on 60+ I do not gain much weight - just get moon faced and have mood swings. I eat more and drink more. When the dose drops then I start to gain a few pounds.
