I, too, have a seton inplanted and I know exactly what you're talking about. I, however, am chosing to leave mine in no matter what bc with my experience with them they just WONT GO AWAY FOR GOOD! I was pregnant with my son when an excrusiatingly painful abscess formed and I had to have surgery. They used an epidural to numb from my waist down so that it wouldnt' hurt my baby and it was only temporary since it never officially went away, just went into remission for a few months. I am seeing a wonderful Colorectal surgeon for it and I couldn't be happier with him. There should be no reason that you can't have children right now so long as you are controlling your Crohn's properly. I would honestly see about taking Asacol, Imuran and Cimzia bc they are the ones that I take to control my Crohn's and they work great. I have a healthy, smart baby boy so there is no reason, that I see, that you couldnt' have a baby. But I'm not a doctor so I can't say that you could conceive with no problems. Also, when I was pregnant, I felt virtually NO symptoms of Crohn's after 5 months. It was wonderful. I went to the bathroom like a normal person and I ate what I wanted (minus the spicy foods) and it was great. I felt normal for once in my life. My gastroenterologist has me on Cimzia and soon Imuran bc like your Remicade and purinethol pairing, Cimzia and Imuran work well together. I've never been put on Remicade and getting put on Cimzia was a wonderful thing! I wasn't on any waiting lists and it is only a once a month thing. I've never heard it being described as addictive but I do have to keep taking it, just like the remicade, until it doesn't control it anymore or I become allergic. I've been on it for over almost 2 years now and the only issue I have with it is that it is a shot and I HATE shots :-( My B-12 shot doesn't hurt nearly as bad but I know that if I don't take it, I don't stay well so I just deal with it. I have had 2 surgeries bc after my first one, I didn't follow up with a gastroenterologist for maintanence medicines and I was also drinking. 2 VERY wrong things to do!
But they were surgeries that I absolutely needed to have done so I had them done. It doesn't cure the crohn's but it definetly helps the medicines do their job when it has a healthier intestine to work on. Plus, the relief form the pain is magnificent! I have never heard of the medicines you speak of except remicade and prednisone so I don't have any advice for you except get off prednisone as soon as you can!! I had an AWFUL experience with predinisone! I was thinking thoughts that I normally would never think and I felt like I was going crazy. Aside from all of that and the moon shape that my face turned into, it did help with the diarrhea and stomach pains and frequent trips to the bathroom. But I would never take it again.
Good luck with it and keep us posted on your progress!! I hope my story has been helpful for you
