My name is PJ and I have Crohn's

Hello Fellow Crohnies!

I have been on Humira since May 2011 and while I was able to gain some weight from 95 to 108 on bi-weekly injections 40 mg (via pen) since increasing to weekly injections I am back down to 102 lbs.

I must say, however, that while I was on Prednisone for 11 months I continually LOST weight as opposed to most who gain weight. My metabolism is a 'bit' :awe: off!

In addition to the weekly Humira, I also take 100 mg of Imuran daily. My next stop will be infusion Remicade which is a 2-hour infusion. I can't sit still for a movie they better put it on a pole so I can travel ...

You have to have humor with this disease or you will totally be beside yourself. I know where every bathroom in every store that I tend to visit is! :thumleft:

Welcome o the forum PJ!

It seems like you have a pretty good attitude when it comes to your condition. Totally agree about needing to find humor in our situation. You will see that a lot of others on the forum will agree with that also :).

I hope Remicade can boost your weight again. Hopefully you can find some nice long books to read during the two hour wait.

Hope to see you around the forum again soon!

Hi PJ and welcome to the forum.

Prednisone for 11 months?! That's a long time! So are you sticking with Humira a bit longer or is your doctor switching you to Remicade right away? I'm on Remicade. For me, it takes 3 hours, because I tend to get extremely low blood pressure during the infusion. Everybody is different though. I've heard of some people that play air hockey while getting the infusion, so you may not have to sit or lay the whole time. :D

Here are a couple sub-forums that may come in handy for you.
This one is for Humira. http://www.crohnsforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=59
This one is for Imuran. http://www.crohnsforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=64
And if you're starting Remicade, here's the club link. http://www.crohnsforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=58

I hope you find lots of comfort and support here. :)

Hello PJ and welcome. I too have had a long term dose of Prednisone - over 18 months but I ended up gaining a lot of weight. Thanks to my diet of crohns flare followed by stricture this year I have now lost it all! I am not able to take Remicade or
Imuran due to reactions I have had to them so my next option is the Humira so your thoughts on this would be welcome. I too find that you have to see the funny side of things with crohns, especially after having to work with the first doctor who had a good
look at my bum!

Hi PJ, I just wanted to chime in and welcome you as well. I'm glad you're here :)

Out of curiosity, can you explain why you're not resectable?

Hi Jessie and thanks for the welcome!

At the current time, we are going to stick with Humira for another 3 months along (with the Imuran). I'm not relishing the thought of infusions...I DO NOT SIT well ... hahaha

Thanks for the sub-forum lists I've been checking out things and this is a wonderful site for information, especially the first-hand information!

Cheers!
