My Support Groups:
What is a thiopurine methyltansferase blood test

We received a blood test form for TPMT (thiopurine methyltransferase) Activity level (phenotype) testing in the mail from gi today. Why would they be doing this test now?

DX - CD 1/12, asthma
Small bowel to small bowel fistula

Meds: ), azathioprine 200mg, Mesalazine 1.2g x 2, seretide 250 x 2 (asthma), ventolin (as needed)

Currently no supplements.

Has previously taken Multi B, Caltrate, B12 & Iron

Prednisolone (from 30 mg 01/02/2012 to 17/06/2012, 30mg 24/10/12-28/12/12, 50mg 24/1/13-27/4/13)

Normally it is done prior to commencing the thiopurines but since it wasn't they may still want to assess the activity level if they plan to increase the dose of her Azathioprine at any point. Some people respond well at lower levels of the drug but run into side effects when they start to increase the dose according to the recommended mg/kg ratio.

GI mentioned previously that they would like to look at increasing the dose as Sarah body,weight increased.
