Crohn's brought me here :(

Hello all. I was diagnosed with moderate to severe Crohn's in 2003 at the age of 15. The initial pains were the worst then, as I'm sure is the case for most.

I've had several flares and issues over the years, but once I started on Remicade 5 years ago, flares and the associated pains largely subsided. Until recently! This past week has been the worst week since my diagnosis. Pains waking me up in the middle of the night and those headaches above the eyes that never seem to go away. A quick google search for Crohn's and headaches brought me to this sight, and after browsing a while I knew I'd have to join. What a great community!

Anyhow, I have a few ideas for the headaches after browsing, but if you all have any additional methods, let me know. As for the pains --- I'm hoping I'll be calling my doctor tomorrow, but have an infusion on Friday. Hope I make it till then!

Hiya Joel
and welcome

Good to have you here with us!
I'm always getting headaches above the eyes, but they have been behaving recently.
I'm on Amitriptyline, this was given as a preventative and it's working well.
Another headache remedy is 3 pints of water on the onset of one and keep hydrated.
Enjoy the forum!
Lotsa luv

Hello Joel and welcome to the forum :) For me heatpads over the eyes help a bit and
being in a dark room - not always possible though when trying to work, paracetamol deosn't touch them. Will you be seeing a doc/nurse on friday? It is definetly worth asking about the pains.

Really glad you have decided to join us!

Hi Joel and welcome to the forum, I'm really glad you made your way here. As I'm sure you know there are a variety of potential causes for your headaches :( What ideas have you found thus far, that way we can suggest others if they aren't on your list.

Again, welcome :) See you around!

Thanks all. I read about taking anti-histamines on the forums, but I went ahead and tried first just drinking LOTS of water (thanks Astra), and I also made conscious effort to change my diet to a low residue diet. Thankfully these changes have worked. I still feel the rumblings of both the headaches and the gut pains, but they have certainly subsided. Thanks for the support, it would be a tough task to go through quarterly reports this week with that pain.

I also wanted to thank the forums for the education about medical marijuana. I read through David's initial thread and plan to wander to the private forums at some point in time. I've always been a proponent of legalization based on my libertarian views, but I never considered using the myself, nor did I know it could be used as a "treatment" for Crohn's. After a little bit of digging I found the house of reps in my state is voting on a medical marijuana bill. I'm doubtful that it will pass because too many politicians are worried about losing their office, but I am happy to see the issue at least being talked about. Marijuana seems like a natural, safe way to encourage healing and reduce pain for Crohn's patients. I think it's only a matter of time before it is legalized on a national level.
