Medication for pain control

When I'm flaring I only take Panadol, as I understand that NSAIDS can cause further damage to the lining of the gut. But Panadol often just doesnt seem to cut it! What medication do you take for pain control when you are flaring?

cannabis in the past when my disease was bad, it's think it's far better than pain killers since it actually lowers intestinal inflammation through opoid receptors, while painkillers tend to only be able to mask pain

I live in belgium where cannabis is legal though, don't want a lecture from someone, it's been legal for years here. You can't commercialise it, that's all.

I take Tramacet. It is non habit forming - mostly, I mean you can get addicted to just about anything really especially when the habit of not feeling any pain is developed!!!

If I got really bad when I was having partial bowel obstructions, then a trip to the ER to get some demerol or morphine was a lovely excursion.

Tylenol will take the edge off my arthritis(not Crohn's arthiritis its from a fall off a horse years ago) but the only thing that touches my abdominal pain is the Tamacet.

Using Aussie brands here - panadol osteo/ bone and joint formulation has a bit more pain relief strength (665mg/tab cf 500mg in standard tabs. No script needed, but be careful not to exceed 6tabs/day)
Panadeine adds 8mg of codeine to the paracetamol in each tab for stronger pain relief - 2 every 6 hrs is ok, tho codeine can cause constipation..! (often not a problem here)
Also worth asking your doc about Mersyndol (panadol +9mg codeine + sedative antihistamine)
One panadeine + one panadol osteo is a safe combination that I find works (max three times/day)
I've tried tramadolSR 50mg (needs a script).. Just took 1, and really needed some panadol to augment it (was looking for Rx to keep the sacroileitis quiet overnight!)
Am not sure if digesic is still available in Aus - another good middle order analgesic, with 325mg paracetamol + dextropropoxyphene (codeine family)
None of them are NSAID's - talk to your GP about safe doses and combinations to keep pain under control.
It's often better to take something before the pain really kicks in if you think it's about to take hold..

The best that I have found for Crohns is Ultram and the generic is Tramedol. It is not a narcotic but treated like one due to the habit forming. I have been on it for 6 years now.

I take tramadol but it mess with my head and constipates me last time I was on it I felt great like I was flying but started pooping blood clot like things after it and yes it is habit forming as its a opioid I've been off it 3 days now and having withdrawl issues so trying not to take it endone is good aswell but need a panadol with it aswell herron is paracetamol aswell seems to work well I know what you mean about panadol noy cutting it for pain.

My GI says things with codeine are no good for crohns as it can cause bleeding and constipation and other stuff advil or nurofen which have ibuprofen in them are no good aswell for that reason

Ellie I'm the same I find I need a paracetamol like herron or panadol to augment the tramadol or endone why is this

Yes digesic is awesome I can still get it but my pharmacist said there is a court case to do with digesic

Thanks Ellie (and all who contributed). I bought some Panadol Osteo, and it seems to be doing the trick. The only problem I am finding with it is that the two tablets together every eight hours are only lasting me for six hours. But I got around that problem by taking the two tablets spaced two hours apart. So I get coverage from the first tablet for the first six hours, and I get coverage from the second tablet for the last six hours, which gives me a total of 8 hours coverage.

So far it seems to be working for me, I'm on my third day today, I'm hoping that it is not a problem to take them in this manner. I can't see why it would be.

I did look into the digesic as well, but in Western Australia it seems that you need a prescription to buy it, or at least at my local chemist, that's what they are telling me.

I avoided all the suggestions which had codeine in them as constipation is a real issue for me - I seem to get constipated really easily.

Ellie, would you by any chance know what the US equivalents are to some of these meds, or a website that could help me figure it out... I have such a hard time finding pain medication that works, without making me sick to my stomach... Some codeine is good because constipation is NEVER an issue here, but too much and I'll be vomiting all day. I've tried Percocet, which didn't work very well and took 2 hours to kick in, I take Lortab sometimes, they work alright for the first week or two but I develop a tolerance very quickly. Morphine does absolutely nothing. IV Dilaudid in the hospital was pretty effective, but I don't think there is a pill form I can take at home...

Anyway... if anyone has any suggestions, they would be much appreciated! thanks!
