Undiagnosed and really scared

I'm only eighteen, and I've suffered from intense stomach pains and chronic diarrhea for as long as I can remember. About a month ago I went to the ER after finding blood in my stool, and they told me about Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis. My cousin has Crohn's, so they scheduled me with a GI specialist, who suggested I get a colonoscopy. I've had three ER visits with bloody BM's and really intense stomach pains. My colonoscopy is tomorrow, and I'm really nervous. I guess I'm really just nervous because all of the information I've gotten on Crohn's and such sounds really scary and I really don't know much about what living with it feels like. My mom says she thinks I don't have it, but from all the pamphlets I've gotten on signs and symptoms, it makes sense...I may be just freaking myself out or something, but I really am very scared. Does anyone have any advice for me?

I say let the chips fall where they fall things are going to be just fine for you, I might not have the right attitude you are looking for but if the word Crohns/UC scares you, call it sassafras. (I like that word it puts a smile on my face) I am not trying to downplay anything just want to remind you that its not a death sentence and if you do have it you have been living with it this entire time so nothing changes. When you find out what you have you are able to treat it which means less trips to the ER and bloody stools, which is a positive thing in my book. My advice is to listen to your doctors enjoy the ride and be sure to think positive, otherwise live your life!
