Hi, I'm new here & currently undiagnosed so I figured this was where to post! lol. My name is Katie, I'm from the UK and I have been suffering with gut problems for a few years now but it's not untill last few months when things have got worse that my G.P sent me to finally see a specialist (previously he tested me for celiac which was negative so told me I had IBS & that was that, I probably would of gone back & pushed for more tests but I then fell pregnant which ceased all my problems, except for the odd bad cramping session. I then forgot all about my issues till they came back with a vengance about 6 months after I gave birth. I've been to see a GI who has booked me in for a Sigmoidoscopy on the 9th of this month... which I am a tad nervous about! (its my first!). I don't know a great deal about IBD, apart from the research I have done on the net. I honestly am fed up to the bone of being ill about 90% of the time, I found this forum a little while ago but have just decided to join today now that I have a date for my scope.. so Hi! & nice to meet ya'll :ysmile:

Hi Katie, glad you joined. Lots of people on here who are helpfull and great at listening. Hope all goes well with sigmoidoscopy. Sorry you are not feeling well. Hopefully you will get some anwsers soon.
Woops!

Want to wish you the best. I am sure you will do fine with the sigmoidoscopy I had one it was slightly uncomfortable because I had a lot going on down there at the time with crohn's. Hope they can find something to make you feel better soon. X

Thank you. I was wondering why some people get sigmoidoscopy instead of colonoscopy? What was your symptoms at the time when you the sig scope? X

I had a colonoscopy for my diagnosis but had a sigmoidoscopy when I was having a flare up so they wanted to check what was going on. The symptoms I had was diarrhea, blood, fissures, skin tags and weight loss. They can still take biopsies during the sigmoidoscopy but it just won't go as far round as the colonoscopy. Do they think it's something in the first part of the large bowel?

My GI didn't really give me much info. I have a lot of pain on my left side so maybe that's why he chose sigmoidoscopy? Symptoms I have are diarrhea, mucus, occasional blood, pain on my left side, cramping, bloating, weight loss, fissures & fatigue.
