Been fortunate and doing great.

Hello everyone, I am new here. I was diagnosed with crohns about 5 years ago. After a lengthy time (about 6 months) where my doctor felt that I was merely allergic to something, I finally was able to see a specialist. The specialist immediately sent me in for a colonoscopy. The results as my doctor put it was classic textbook crohns. After tying several of different types of drugs, and having each one start destroying part of my body, the doctor wrote me a prescription (and I'm sorry people it's been so long that i can't remember the names of the drugs) for one that i needed a chest x-ray for in case of lung fibrosis. My wife put her foot down and said that we needed to find something natural that won't hurt my body. After discussing it with my specialist she recommended Circumin (tumeric). After working out a dosage I have been on it for almost 4 years now. I do watch my sugar and caffeine intake. other than that been doing great. I know about the issues and horrors of crohns. Had a close cousin with it. She had several surgeries and several different medications before she passes at a very early 35 years.

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

I am glad you have been able to find something that works for you, just to confirm you are currently symptom free? Do you still see your doc for regular check ups to make sure things inside are still settled?

First of all thank you for your warm welcome. Again I have been quite fortunate to respond to the curcumin. The doctor was a gastroenterologist specialist. She did not have very much information on the spice. we had to work out the dosage ourselves. Angrybird I am symptom free. As I am a newbe here I don't know if you want or I'm allowed to discuss specific medical or daily functions, but I am willing to share any information that I'm allowed. After seeing the troubles my cousin went through I would like to help as much as I can.

Thank you ::ycool:

Well, I will try to answer all of the questions, if I forget something please remind me, I've recently been in an auto accident and i swear that it's totally disrupted my train of thought. I started out by researching Tumeric/Circumin on the internet and sort of found the maximum dosage (some sights said 4g and other said 6g daily) I went to a health food store and asked their advice about dosage and settled on 2000 mg daily. after awhile I reduced it to 1600 mg and now i've reduced it again to 800 mg daily. I started out with the health food store capsules at 40$ a bottle and went that way for about 3 years. then after a visit to my doctor he told me that I should try the tumeric sold in the supermarket instead. He felt that it was the same stuff just packaged by the health food stores into convenient capsules. So now I have been buying bulk tumeric sold at the local food store for about 6 months. I hope it the same stuff. I take the same dosage in a small measuring spoon with water in the morning.
So for the medical symptoms before diagnosis I started with frequent bowel movements, then a fistula, then large amounts of daily bowel movement ( around 12/day) after diagnosis the doctor said she the inflammation was so bad that she couldn't get the camera in to the small intestine. On regular medication for about 9 months(again I can't remember the names of the three medications as its been about 3 years) but everything the doctor put me on was reacting with my body in one way or another. I seem as normal in regards to my daily movements. On the circumin I am down to once daily to once every two days. I've had the odd month where I had a day where i've been in the bathroom more than once, but it has never lasted more than one day. and i've been able to put on weight, which was a problem before.
Congrats AB for being 22 weeks pregnant. that alone is a challenge let alone having to combat IBD as well. You have also reminded me that I have not been in for a check up in over a year.
The GI didn't recommend the cirucmin out right, she was reluctant to mention anything that was "natural" as there wasn't enough studies or data on it to say it was going to work, but at the time it seemed better than the alternative.
Hope i have answered everything.

Thank you :) The pregnancy at the moment seems to be keeping me at the best I have ever been with this disease :) Took three years of meds and an op to get to a place where I felt healthy enough to try and have a baby though. I would say it is time to get things checked hun just to be on the safe side even if you are feeling well.

AB I agree, I have personal issues every time I go to see the doctor. And quite honestly the same issues with this site. I just logged in to check things out and see if I'm going to be in for a nasty surprise a few years down the road.
