I am a terrible and annoying patient. I ask questions. Lots of questions. I veto treatments, struggle with pill compliance, and in general give my doctors agita. I'm also terribly picky. My specialist had better be smarter than me.

Dr. Michael S. Karasik is smarter than most people, myself included. I've been through a half a dozen GI doctors in my 30 years as a Crohn's sufferer, and I'm glad that Dr. Karasik is still a young guy who should be around a whole lot longer.

Dr. Karasik is patient, thorough, and intelligent. He listens to you, reasons with you, debates you when necessary, and is an all around affable and easy to get along with physician who will still tell you when you're wrong and then explain to you diplomatically and in great detail just why you are wrong. He'll entertain your thoughts on alternate treatment plans and make changes or compromises with you wherever they're reasonable. He's not a bully and he's not a "my way or the highway" type of doctor. He will let you know when you're making a mistake, but otherwise your treatment under Dr. Karasik is treatment designed by both doctor and patient.

While Dr. Karasik knows his stuff, in the extreme, he's also perfectly willing to refer to other doctors when it's called for and doesn't try to seem overly authoritive on areas outside of his expertise.

Dr. Karasik has been my gastroenterologist for over 10 years and I cannot imagine ever changing, nor can I recommend him enough to anyone looking for a gastroenterologist in the state of Connecticut. I only wish he'd take pediatric patients so that my daughter could see him, too.

Rating:
5 / 5 Bedside Manner
5 / 5 Knowledgeable
5 / 5 Open to alternative treatments
5 / 5 Ease of accessibility
