Has anyone had success using Imuran along with LOFFLEX diet?

Hi guys,

This is my first thread, let me give a brief run down of my current status. Was diagnosed w suspected Crohn's (in the colon) around Sept last year. Started with the SCD diet almost immediately, before needing pred in Oct, the Pred (40mg) initially worked got rid of symptoms (blood etc), then when going down to 20mg and after some stress, the blood came back. Anyway, i've been on it now for about 4 months, im currently on 30mg and tapering down to 25mg next week, I should also mention I've almost been on pentasa (4g a day) for just short of a month (i've heard that can take some time to start working), and I am on my 6th day of TLD (total liquid diet - using fortisips). ALso i self medicate with marijuana (via my vaporizer - no nicotine of course) every day, and although I generally only go to the loo in the morning (maybe 2-4 times until the bowel feels empty) I was feeling really well before starting the fortisip drinks, the reason for starting them was simply because I was still passing blood, and still am.

Anyway, the GI nurse thinks next step is Imuran, I'm just wondering if anyone has any success with Imuran and diet in conjunction?

Ideally I'd like to try more alternative therapies like TSO or LDN before going onto the heavier stuff but alas in Australia its really the DOCS way or the highway...

anyway, any help would be appreciated

if you can get on LOFFLEX you won't need imuran.... They wanted to put me on one of the intravenous treatments following failing to tolerate a couple of other drugs, and I've come out of flare with no drugs AT ALL!

but you have to do it under some control, checking the calprotectin levels in the stool and starting with elemental to change the bacteria in the gut.

Its not easy, tell anyone you are alcolol caffeine and chocolate free and they all ask how you do it, one would be a pain but all three impossible. I say the alternative is future surgery and that's what motivates me, plus also I'm office based and live alone so its easier for me than someone with a family.

get John hunters book called IBD and that will take you through LOFFLEX, I tried to do it on my own, the NHS in UK said diet could not help, but it is - I'm stable, weight is starting to increase if I don't keep a handle on it, am testing foods with some success and failure and feel normal again!
