Laxative saved me from surgery!

Hi all.
Long story short, i wanted to let you all know that i had really bad crohns to the point where i was up for surgery this year- going to have a colostomy bag for 3 months until one day...

I decided to randomly have some laxative one night before i went to bed because i knew i was swollen and sore and a bit clogged up which wasn't helping my crohns (or toilet trips to try and push everything out!). The next morning i was in absolute agony and could not leave the bathroom. I swore to myself i would never take that laxative again.

By the end of the night my stomach had settled down a bit.. i looked very ill and pale... very fragile. I know it was the Lord that night that told me to take that laxative again, which when sat down and deeply thought about going through that day's pain again.. i thought it was crazy but, that night i took it again.

The next morning i woke up and that was it. No pain. I bounced out of bed. I had energy and a huge smile on my face. :) I thank the Lord for opening this door for me, as i had been praying for guidence as to whether to have the surgery or not and as it turns out my specialist told me that there would be no point of having this surgery after how good i'm feeling. Even though there is still pain for me every now and then... and my crohns isn't fully gone away. I'm very blessed to be where i am at the moment and i know God hears my cries.

Thought i would share to encourage anyone who needs it. that God is in control and to hold onto that hope- even when it seems so small.

Hello and welcome to the forum!
Its awesome to hear that you are doing so well!
Excuse me for my questions, I have never heard of anything like this, and I am very curious.
Did your doctor do any tests to confirm that you did not need the surgery?
What was leading him to believe you need a colostomy before you tried the laxative?
You said "my Crohn's isn't fully gone away" What symptoms do you still have?

It really is awesome to hear that you are doing well, I think it helps when other people read success stories to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Please keep us updated on your progress and continue to be an inspiration to others!

I'm always glad to see people finding healing through faith. I believe God really does work in wondrous ways.

I'm curious to see as well, how things go for you in the next few days or weeks, and if you ever do find a physical explanation for what might have been going on. I hope you'll keep us informed?

Hi there :)
No I didn't have any tests to tell me that I was any better but when the doc saw me and I explained how I had been feeling recently after taking the laxative he said there would be no point in having such a major surgery if my pain levels had dropped that much.
Before the laxative and still even now I had really badly diseased part in the end of my large intestine so they wanted to take it out and for me to have a bag until it heals.
When I say my crohns hasn't fully gone away I mean that I still do get pretty severe stomach aches but not nearly as painful as they used to be.

I will definitely keep everyone informed :) thanks guys <3

Just to confirm it was a GI doc you saw who said they are happy with how things are even though you have confirmed active diease and symptoms? Are you on any meds for your crohn's apart from the laxative? What have you been in previously? I must admit I am quite concerned about what could now be potentially happening inside without the disease being adequetly treated to be put it into remission.

Yeah I was also worried about what could be happening. It was my specialist (GI) that said there was no point in having the surgery if the pain had decreased as much as it did. I still have the pain but no where near as bad so I'm still being treated for my 'crohns' but I'm just in so much less pain.
At the moment I have Humira injections fortnightly and I take methotrexate tablets every week. (Also fish oil and calcium tablets) - along with the laxative each night.
I've been on all sorts! Steroids, azathiprine (can't spell it!), mesasal, infliximab... But what I'm on now seems to be holding enough off.

Not really sure what's going on with my body. They're doing another colonoscopy soon to have a look.. But for now the pain is less and I'm doing well so I'm happy!

I am pleased to see that you are at least on other meds, whilst not pleasant I think the scope is a good idea so things can be checked on. Please keep us updated on how things go.
