Kidney Issues and Crohn's- Anyone have info?

I am new to the site, not Crohn's. I have had Chroh's for 30 thirty plus years. After four surgeries and a long period of illness, I have been pretty much in remission with some minor complications for several years.

In the last 6 months I have had two obstructions and am now back with active disease. I just started on Mercaptapurine and am about to have my first Remicade treatment. I just found out that my kidney function is declining and will be going for a renal ultra-sound and possibly being referred to a renal specialist. I don't want to get freaked about this but would like to know if anyone has had similar issues and what was done about it.

I would appreciate any feedback. I have always stayed away from these kinds of forums but I think I am finally ready to reach out.:sign0085:

Hi
I have moderate renal failure and have been started on Remicade.
I share your concerns.
The docs continually monitor my renal status ---so far so good.
Have you discussed your concerns with the GI--- especially since you are starting Remicade,
I would think they will look at the reasons for your renal failure.
Hopefully you will be ok for the Remicade....else they would not give it to you.
So far I have had one infusion and the next will be Jan 31st.
The nurses continually monitor vital signs during the infusion every 15mins for me.
They also do blood work as ordered by the GI.
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes

Hi Trysha,

Thank you for your response. I am glad you are maintaining a good renal status.

My GI said kidney issues are out of his scope so hopefully I will have a more in depth conversation with my soon-to-be internist.

Good luck with the Remicade. Thanks and hugs to you too!

Should have added that I was sent to a nephrologist and monitored by him for two years before being referred back to my very competent and vigilant GP.
All the best
Hugs
