New to the group but not yet diagnosed

Hello everyone!! Wow it is great to hear that I'm not alone. Though I have not Ben diagnosed yet I feel I have some type of IBD. Here is my story though it is simple to some of you, I was miserable and scared for 5 weeks no know
Ingram what was going on with my body and still a little unsure.

My name is Jodie. I have precious little boys and a wonderful husband that I've been married to for 12 years. I started having having a little bit of problems with my bowels about 6 years ago when my mom was dieing of cancer. My stomach was sinsotive to certain meats like pork but I was careful with eating it and got better. Well the day after Thanksgiving, after being on a 3 month diet, I woke up with these awful pains in my lower abdomen and lower back with diarrhea with a little blood in my feces. Later on in the day I started running fever. Well I was a little concerned but was hoping for just a virus. The next morning I woke up feeling a little better bc the fever was gone. I was a little fatigue but was no fever so thought that it must be a virus. The day following same symptoms pain and fever but only my bm was now very mucusy looking. The fever would like a in a pattern, come a day gone a day. When I couldn't take the pain anymore and my husband couldn't stand to see me like that we decided to take a trip to the er. Well they made me feel like a retard. My whiteblood count showed a slight elevation which was not enough for the doctors to think I had an infection but would not run any other tests on me bc I have no insurance. He was trying to tell me I had some kind of stomach virus. I tries to tell him I knew my body and did not have just a virus. He told me to go home with a script of antibiotics and if the stomach problem didn't get better following the next day to start antibiotics. Well, guess what? It didn't go away. So took the antibiotics, so for a week I felt great. No more pain. Well two days after the meds I started having symptoms all over again but this time hit me twice as hard. I was one sick puppy. I started running a fever if 103 and the pains in my abdomen hips and lower back was worse than before. Going to the bathroom was horrible too. The cramps would be so bad I would at times start sweating from the pain. I was very sick and weak. My husband kept trying to get me to go back to the hospital but I wouldn't go bc I felt they were not caring at all to find out what was wrong with me bc of not having ins. So I decided to go to a local doctor. I was very weak when I went, my heart rate was extremely high from being malnourished. The nurse practitioner was great. She ran several tests on me for infections and looking for bacteria in my body, but nothing except she said she found traces of blood in my stool. She said she thought I may have some type IBD but couldn't rule that out until she sent me to a specialist to do a colonoscopy. During this time waiting I called her up bc I was getting sicker and sicker. lost 10 lbs in one week. She finally prescribed me some prednisone, steroids, wow I felt like me again!! I was finally able to eat!! The doctors office called me back to dbu colonoscopy but denied me bc I have no ins. Oh well, God has a plan for me and I will eventually one day find a diagnosis but for now I am back to normal and feeling great. I do have to watch what I eat though. Some things do irritate my bowels. Thank you all for letting me share my story. After reading up on IBD I do believe without a doubt I have it.

Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

Just to confirm are you still on the steroids at the moment? I am not sure how things work over there but is there anyway you can apply for financial assistance so you can get the scope done and hopefully then a confirmed diagnosis? We do also have an undiagnosed sub forum that is worth checking out to also have a chat with the folks here: http://www.crohnsforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=75.

Wishing you all the best.

Welcome to the forum, Jodie!

Like Angrybird, I'm wondering if there's anyway you could get insurance. Would a medical card be available to you? You really need to get a diagnosis and treatment as soon as you can. It's great that you're feeling good, but the disease (if you do have IBD) can still be active when you don't feel it.

I'm glad you're feeling well at the moment. Will the nurse practitioner still prescribe you steroids if they're needed? It's very unusual for steroids to be given without a definite diagnosis, since they can be dangerous if not taken correctly.

 I hope things go well for you. Please keep us updated!
