6-mp, upper abdominal pain, low back pain, elevated blood protein

Hi there. Haven't posted in a while. My Crohn's has returned. Had a small bowel follow through Dec. 12th and a colonoscopy Dec 26th. Started on 6-mp 4 weeks ago. Blood draw at 1 week showed Sodium levels were low, re-draw at 2 weeks was normal. Started having upper abdominal pain (right side), low back pain, and what seems like bladder pain 3 days ago. CBC normal, and Chem panel showed slightly elevated protein (8.7, normal is 6.4-8.3). GI doc says no biggie, and I need to see Primary Care Physician if I am still concerned since it's not "gut related." Advice? what does elevated protein normally indicate? How high is bad? Should I see my PCP? Is this just side effects of 6-mp? It has been forever since I was on it (Oct. 2006 went off all meds, remission from Dec. 2005 bowel resection to present flare) Guess I'm just trying to figure out if my GI doc may be overlooking something or if I'm being crazy.

You may want to go and see your PCP, or if you are in a lot of pain go to the ER. When I was on 6MP, I was about 5 weeks in, it started screwing with my liver. Your liver is located in your Right upper quadrant. This could very well be the case. I am not trying to worry you, but that was my experience with it. I ended up getting so ill with the pain and started having nausea and vomiting, I was admitted to the hospital where they found out that the 6MP was causing the problem.

I'm not sure about the protein level. It doesn't really seem elevated enough for it to be worrisome, but I would still either call your PCP or go to the ER if your pain persists.

Just to reiterate the RUQ pain, I had cholengitis when I was pregnant (not from the 6MP), but my RUQ pain was horrendous, and my liver panels were extremely elevated.

I would at least give a call to your doctor and see what they suggest.
