Remicade reactions

I've had U.C. for 25 years. Humira failed. Remicade has been the only thing that
has worked. I've had 7 infusions so far. I need steroids before the last infusion.

Is the steroid due to an allergic reaction? Would you say most or all of your symptoms are gone now? Happy to hear you are doing better. I know the drug is a lifesaver for many. I just recently started it myself.

I had a reaction after my sixth infusion- 3 days later. Stiff and red left elbow,
stiff and red index finger on the other hand. I saw a the best U.C. Doctor at
UCSF before the seventh. We decided on 100mg of IV steroids before Remicade.
I got the 7th two days ago and no problems yet. I also take 6mp,Allopurinol,
Asacol.I also get benadril and tylanol. before each infusion.

Glad to hear that you can tolerate it with the steroids.

I also heard Remicade has a injectable drug. It might have a less possibility of reaction.

Remicade is only administered by IV but there are sister drugs Humira and Cimzia that can be self injected. Cimzia and Humira pose less allergy risk because they are entirely human unlike Remicade.
