Hello my name is Eric and apparently I have Ileal Crohns

Hello everyone,

Just found this website which looks like a fantastic place for information and support!!

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Eric and I'm from Ireland.
My story is (the short crohns related one!)...I'm almost 40...a couple of months ago on the advice of my doctor I went to A&E with severe abdominal pain and suspected appendicitis. Long story short, I was admitted and my appendix was removed.

The following day the operating surgeon told me that although he had removed the appendix, the substantive issue is that my bowel is very inflamed and he thinks that I may have crohns.

Consequently, I made an appointment with a colorectal consultant surgeon and had a colonoscopy and a CT scan a month later. I got the results last week and as the title of this post states, apparently I have ileal crohn's disease. My consultant thinks that I need surgery but would like me to see a colleague of his, a gastroenterologist who specialises in crohns, to discuss options and medication etc. In advance of that meeting I have to have another scan (barium I think not sure?).

I’m currently waiting for that appointment and to an extent in limbo. I’ve been prescribed prednisolone.

At this point I should say that I have had issues with my stomach for years, nothing drastic just pains which I put down to diet (I have an intolerance for wheat and dairy).

There seems to be a dearth of information on crohns out there, the problem as I see it, is wading through it all to find the ‘right’ information, if there is such a thing.

For someone who knows nothing about crohns , scanning the web can be a scary and worrying time as there seems to lot more negative experiences than positive.

Anyway..nice to meet you all…and I look forward to talking to you in the future and maybe learning something.

Eric.

Hello Eric! Welcome to the forum!

I agree with you 100% about finding information on the internet to be scary and worrying, but the more you know about your condition, the better! Even if it is information that scares you.

Overall though, take care of yourself, listen to your doctor, and do what makes you feel right!

Thanks for sharing your story, Eric, and like you said about my story, it will be interesting to see how our journeys unfold!

Good luck with everything, friend!
