Could this Dr be wrong??

Hi. I have a few questions. I recently went to the ER with severe abdominal pain and nausea D and was given morphine and a ct scan and blood work. The ER dr came back after Five hrs and said my ct scan showed a thickening of the bowel wall and he said I have some type of Ibd most likely crohns. So and he sent me home with Zofran,Phengan,Cipro, vicodin and Flagyl. And a referral to a GI for a colonoscopy. I'm kind of scared bc according to everything I 've read I do have a lot of the symptoms I have D all the time and a lot of pain I can only eat certain foods and I always have urgency I cant go out in public unless theres a toilet near by. Heres the thing...I never had a fever and never lost weight even though as soon as I eat Im in the restroom straight away!! I am also overweight. Im just so stressed. Is it poSsible that Dr made a mistake ?? What else could be possible? Sorry so long I am just concerned. Also I never passed blood.

It could be possible? But it sounds like a colonoscopy is a good idea anyway to figure out what IS going on with your body, so I wouldn't overlook it. A lot of your symptoms do seem to have overlap with Crohn's.

Also, if part of the reason you're stressed is because it's a chronic illness: remember that a diagnosis also means that they have a clearer idea of how to treat it, and hopefully your symptoms can go away!

Those symptoms do match up very well with stricturing Crohn's Disease, but only a GI with can tell, hopefully with a colonoscopy. The procedure itself isn't as horrible as it sounds, it's very commonly done so your endoscopist will be very well versed. You spend like 30 minutes in a gown reading and then they wheel into the operating theater and hit you with twilight anesthesia, you wake up and get driven home after with some pictures to look at and a medical report.

I know how scary it sounds, but knowing what's going wrong means your doctor and specialists can help you more. There's also a great thread on preparing for your colonsocopy.

I hope they find answers for you!

Thanks for the replies. I guess I do need a diagnosis. I have been sick for a long time. I have my first appointment with my GI in the morning. I'm just nervous...

I had the same problems. I am over weight and have d a lot. I don't loss weight easy and I am not throwing up. But I do feel nausea's most of the time. I was also diagnosed last year because I had 2 strictures. When I came out of surgery they said I have a text book of Crohn's. Just wait till you get the results back and go day by day. That's what I do.

Doctors are human, so it is possible for them to make a mistake. CT scans are another thing.... if it shows thickening of your bowel wall, then you need to go see a good GI ASAP
