Hi, new to the forum looking for some advice/opinions

Hi, about 8 months ago I was told I had IBS, [had the cramps, diarrhoea] and it tended to be after eating onions, sometimes having caffeine. Milk gave me problems occasionally, but not always. And wasn't a big red meat eater anyway.

October time i had D with a spot of blood in, about size of a one penny piece, and it was mixed with a gellatine substance. Was quite thick, and if I held the gellatine in one tissue and touched it with a second piece, then pulled them apart slowly, it would stick to both pieces then break off in like an elastic type way. [was told this is definitely mucus?]

Have had blood only once since. When the D and cramps come on now, they last for a day or 2, and the D exits me like a tap and while they're happening I feel really tired and experience nausea, but never am actually sick.

Noticed around early March, and about a week ago, both flare-ups caused D and cramps again, but mucus was also in the D. [no blood, have only experienced that twice] Have even had instances where only mucus comes out of me [if you imagine spitting into water and seeing the saliva floating, it was like that but a yellowish colour], this tends to be as the flare up is easing/finishing. There was 1 occasion where the mucus was white, sitting on top of a stool. The cramps I get are sometimes just above abdomen or below it. I also get mouth ulcers recurring every so often.

Anyway to cut a long story short[er] I'm awaiting my appt.date to see a colorectal surgeon, been put onto an urgent list with maximum 26week wait. Does anyone think in their opinion it is only IBS? Or possible IBD?

EDIT: Forgot to add, I'm 28yrs old, my mother has had Crohns Disease for about 29yrs. She had symptoms just before falling pregnant with me, the 9months carrying she had no flare-ups, then just after I was born they diagnosed her. [im told it can be genetic?]

*sorry to have rambled on

Sorry to hear you are not well…
The hard part now is getting a firm diagnosis…this is where all your energy should be focused……any gastroenterologist should be able to set you up with a biopsy of your gut and test for crohns disease/UC and celiacs disease…..have you done that yet??
A surgeon will want to chop you open and have a look…

good luck

Yes the specialist is what I'm awaiting for sorry I was referred for an examination just awaitin A date. Its annoying as when I feel OK my stools are fine and normal but cramping and D causes the mucus. No weight loss either but was told this isn't something which happens everytime

Thanks. The 26 weeks was a maximum but apparently my GP can expedite it so I'm seen sooner which is good.

It sounds like potential IBD. Your doctor will very likely want a colonoscopy soon. My GI pushed mine along to get a diagnosis and your may very well do the same. Looking at family history would make me more suspicious as well. Good luck and hugs!

Thanks. I have been asking for months to be referred as I wasn't convinced it was IBS and finally my GP agreed which was a relief. I think I will ask for them to push it along and get me seen quicker.

The only thing which makes me think it may not be IBD is, as said, occasionally my stools are normal/how you would imagine a stool to look. But I guess this is quite normal when there is no flare up?
