Calprotectin-Not just bowel inflammation

Hi All- Interested in your comments. Saw this article today tying Calprotectin levels to arthritis. Suggests that Calprotectin is not just a bowel inflammation marker:

Please let me know what you all think.

That is interesting. They monitored serum levels (rather than stool) for the study. Bareket- I sent you a PM with a question.

My Support Groups:
Interesting, I never knew Calprotectin was used for that. Spondyloarthritis/Ankylosing Spondylitis is associated with Crohn's though (both my daughters have it) so that makes sense.
Our rheumatologist said around 60% of people with Ankylosing Spondylitis have subclinical gut inflammation (inflammation without symptoms) so it makes sense that Calprotectin is associated with progression.

There have been quite a few studies done over the years regarding serum calprotectin as a predictor of various diseases activity. This was something I saved a while backÖ

The problem with serum levels will always be that you canít reliably isolate them to one body system, unlike faecal.
