Rv fistula

Hi all. I'm new here. I am 32 years old and go for my first colonoscopy on Monday. In December 2012 I developed a peri anal abscess. The ER dr drained it and removed a large amount of damaged tissue. After that I had the abscess drained and packed another 5 times by my gyn. Till I got in last September to a colon rectal specialist. He confirmed I had a fistula. Underwent surgery in November to have a seton drain put in to clear the infection. On April 3 he removed it and tried to fix the fistula. In the days following my surgery I formed a rv fistula. So here I am, now with two. I am terrified of the prep for the colonoscopy with the rv fistula and what they may find. Has anyone else had the rv fistula? I'm just scared and in need of some support from folks who have been there. Thanks for listening :)

Not yet. I guess see what the colonoscopy shows and go from there. I have a surgery tentatively scheduled for July in hopes I am healed enough to have it done. I think I am most scared of the prep for the colonoscopy. I imagine it's not pleasant for anyone but can't even imagine with the rv fistula. Thanks for responding. Sometimes just good to know you're not alone. Much appreciated.

The prep is painful unfortunately, yes. You may want to ask for pain medication for after. It took awhile for it to die down for me after the procedure.

And it's no problem! We have a subforum for fistulas actually, as well as a support group if you're interested. I would link but I'm on mobile right now. :p

As for treatment for the fistula itself... I had a fistulotomy with a seton inserted, and was put on Cipro/Flagyl as antibiotics for awhile and put on Humira. The Humira did an amazing job of healing my fistula.

I'm happy to hear you are doing well with the humira. I will have to look into the fistula forum. I'm still maneuvering my way through here. Thank you again

Thank you so much. I think I was able to join the support group. I appreciate you taking the time to give me this information.
