Hello

Hello Everyone! I am a new member and so very glad I found yall! I am 28 years old and a wife and mother to a 5 year old beautiful boy. I was recently admitted to the hospital with severe abdominal pains about a week ago and was admitted for 2 days. During my stay they have told me that they believe I have Crohn's Disease. I was in total shock. I have never been in the hospital for being sick ever! So in other words I am scared out of my mind. Not many people know very much about this disease and I find myself having to explain it over and over again to my friends with me myself not fully aware of what it is. LOL!!! I know that the pain is gone but have had diarrhea ever since and I have lost almost 20 lbs. I have no clue if that is even normal. I can promise I am not complaining about the weight lose. LOL!!!! If anyone has any tips out there for me it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Denise

Hi and welcome. Sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

Are you under the care of a GI specialist? Do you know what the treatment plan is?

I'd suggest keeping a food and symptom journal to find foods that may cause a problem. Take it a day at a time. Learn as much as you can. Knowledge is power.

Sending you my support. Hope you feel better soon.

I was assigned a GI in the hospital. They told me that I will need to have a colonoscopy done but we have to wait till my inflammation goes down. We have no treatment plan yet. I have a follow up visit with my GI on July 9th.

Hi Denise,

If have not yet been to a colonoscopy, by what means did they come to suspect Crohn's ? Did you get some other tests like CT/MRI scan ?

I hope it turns out to be nothing.

However, if this turns out to be Crohns, my advice to you would be to be pro-active from day 1 and try to stay on top of things as much as possible. Easly said, that's true.
But if there anything I really regret in my life, that is it.
It takes courage, but according to recent publications this is thought to yield the best prognosis.

Hope you get some answers soon and a suitable treatment. We are here for you. Keep us posted.

Best Wishes

They found it through a CT Scan. At first they thought it was my appendix but they said the CT Scan showed Crohn's Disease in my intestines. Are they wrong? I am so very confused on all of this. I am worried mostly because I have lost 8 pounds in like a week and I know that is not healthy.

I was diagnosed with only a sigmoidoscopy. Other tests, including colonoscopy confirmed the diagnosis.

It's good that they went for the CT scan, it could be very informative test. Have they said what they saw there that they suspect Crohns ? Is it a stricture or a fistula ?
Anyway they have to proceed to colonoscopy in order to nail the diagnosis as this it will allow them both to see the mucosa and take biopsy if needed.

To me, it sounds like you are on the right path...

Please please try not to worry too much. Take it one day at a time.
Things will get better, you'll see.
