Wife in need of help.

Hey y'all,
So my husband has no idea i'm on here, but I'm at a loss. He has had crohns disease since he was 12 and now he is 23. Two weeks ago we had to take him to the hospital because of a bad flare-up and they did a catscan. They told him his appendix was flared in the middle. Once in the hospital they gave him anti-biotics and loritab and another medicien but im not sure what it was. He was fine for a couple of days but now he is back in pain and bleeding again....and he said the bleeding is coming and going and i know better than that. They want me to get him into a specialist and get a scan of his stomach again and i would like to but it will have to be monday before i can do that. but is there anything i can do to maybe help him out? I'm giving him marshmellow root in his drinks two to three times a day and that seems to be working a little. Please help:/
Thanks,
Stacie

Hi and welcome.

Can you take him to the ER? There aren't any OTC meds that will stop the bleeding.

We went to the Er about two weeks ago. All they did was give him tabs and two other meds and a cat scan and send him home. they even let him go back to work the very next day after saying his appendix could rupture.:(

I'd be going back if I were in your situation.

It it a lot of blood or a bit? Are you comfortable waiting until monday ?

Oh. Sorry to hear that. I'msure someone from the US will be along soon. They may have a work around for you.

Sending both of you my support.

I need to find out how to get him on something...some type of insurance. Because he is still going to work everyday. he works as a maintenance man at a resort in myrtle beach where we live. and he has to do stuff that puts a lot of strain on his stomach.

Contact his primary care doctor and try to get an emergency appointment.

They may be able to help with something until you can get a specialist appointment set up.

In the meantime what does his diet look like? Focus on soft, bland foods that tend to not aggravate crohn's symptoms (mashed potatoes, greek yogurt, boiled chicken breast, salmon). Juiced fruits/veggies eliminate fiber from the fruits and help the body to absorb nutrients better. Other liquid diets such as Ensure drinks and other health/nutrition shakes also offer nutrients without having to eat much.

The digestive tract doesn't have to work very hard to break down these foods and drinks above which in turn gives the body a break and may help calm symptoms.

Low-residue diets might also calm some irritation in the digestive tract. Take a look at this link for various diet options for dealing with crohns:
