Ct scans vs Colonoscopies, I need advice on what to do

Hello,

I'm on Imuran, but I'm still having symptoms. When ever I tell my doctor that I'm still having symptoms, he tells me that the blood work and ct scans show no signs of inflammation.

My question is, could there still be inflammation that blood work ct scans can't show? Would a colonoscopy be the best way to determine if I have no inflammation?

Thanks,

A blood test doesn't always indicate if there is inflammation. (I never got one positive even when I had inflammation on the CT scan), however the CT scan is quite accurate.

The colonoscopy is the best exam if you want to be sure

Scumtastic,

I've recently had two CT scans. During the last one, the tech mentioned that there is some new federal regulation limiting the number of CT scans a person should undergo. You might want to ask your GI about this the next time he suggests one.

A CT scan is much like an XRAY, you don't look inside the tissue. A colonoscopy can poke inside the intestine, look at ulcers in the surface, cut polyps and biopsies. Overall a colonoscopy is more precise.
