Ozanimod a new class of drug for IBD...

Ozanimod, a novel sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor modulator, is safe and effective in the treatment of patients with moderate to severe ulcerative colitis, according to results from the phase 2 TOUCHSTONE study.

"Ozanimod 1 mg induced clinical remission at week 8, the primary end point, and met all three secondary end points," said William Sandborn, MD, from the University of California, San Diego.

"And the favorable benefit–risk profile supports the planned phase 3 trial and the phase 2 study in Crohn's disease," he reported here at Digestive Disease Week 2015.

Anyone understands how this drug is different from immuno-supressor or Biologics and if it appears less invasive?

Thanks for the info. As you say, an interesting new class of drug- it does sound as though it has immune-suppressing qualities-check out this link on the University of Michigan FB page:

It apparently has a similar mechanism to fingolimod, which is approved for MS. The wikipedia page on fingolimod is a bit concerning in terms of side effects, but hopefully Ozanimod is a better version with a safer profile

I have been trying to figure this stuff out for about a year.
Interesting that plant-type sphingolipids called sphingadienes cannot be metabolized to S1P and instead enhance the metabolism of S1P by increasing SPL levels. Vegetarians get UC but perhaps not that many.
Old Mike

whole paper

why is it interesting-Different approach to UC.

now have to try and figure out what it is modulating and how, which way since it is experimental they probably wont say much, need to find patents perhaps,do we want more or less

S1P,or more or less SPL

press release they are only using one mg,

MS drug

target lymphocyte traffic in UC consists of the sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor agonist fingolimod (FTY-720).

Older stuff

caramel coloring inhibits SPL

might be more than one caramel

also a MAP connection

B6 connection

good paper explains much but confusing as hell on what to do

more confusing stuff possible extra bleeding

more stuff cancer older
