New to Crohn's & this forum :)

Hey everyone,

I have recently been for a colonoscopy and was diagnosed as Colitis (Crohns)
-- Colitis (Crohns) was how it was written on my hospital release papers--

I had been told I had IBS for over 2 years but recently caught Typhoid from a holiday to Egypt (never going back there again!!) which seemed to have kicked off the Colitis (Crohns).

Now I am just waiting to go back to the Gastro specialist to review the diagnosis and the results of a biopsy.

I'm finding I am in so much pain and unable to sleep well at nights. I have constant cramps which are on the right and left sides with pain which feels just at the base of my ribs :(

I am also constipated and when i can go to the toilet the result is definitely not normal looking poop.

I dont know whether to go and see my GP about the pain or wait another couple of weeks to see the specialist. Please do you guys have any advice or similar experience, especially with the constipation as I understand D is more common with Crohns?

Thank you

:depressed:

Hi there,

I was the usual diarrheoa, but you'll find a couple on here have constipation - no doubt they'll pop up at some point.

Anyway. Welcome!

Thanks for the welcome guys :)

I'm not brilliant at forums so I apologise if I make any mistakes.

Shantel - Still have the pain but I am going to see GP today, hopefully get something to ease the pain. I would say the pain varies from about 4 - 8.

Have had a look at a few posts where there are people who seem to have the same symptoms as me, I thought I was odd for not having the D and being constipated.

Therefore, I do declare this forum as ACE for enabling us to discuss all aspects of our problems in all their gory details :ybatty:

Hi Binxy! Welcome to the forum.
I have both C & D. Sounds weird, but it happens (going through the D phase right now, but sometimes have both at the same time... think it's called "overflow D" or something)
You're right to go and bother the GP... no reason to stay away if you're in pain and it'll help to take their minds off the swine flu pandemic... you'll be like a breath of fresh air to them (if that term can ever be applied to crohnies)

I have been to my GP and he gave me Codeine and paracetamol. I have just read online that it can cause constipation... which is one of my symptoms :( :(

I understand the GP's hands are tied until full results from my biopsies are back.

Hi, Binxy! :welcome: to the club :)

I usually just have D, but I do get the C once in a great while. Funny (not funny like haha) enough, I just had both like 10 minutes ago. Hurts, doesn't it? :(

I hope you get answers soon.

Keep us posted, and welcome again!

hi binxy,
I have crohn's colitis too. It means it's isolated to large intestine. I don't suffer from C, only D.

Hi Binxy, I have Crohn's Colitis too. I had problems with C all of my life until the D started just over a year ago & I was diagnosed. My pain is on each side, at my waist (here it's a burning, squeezing type of pain), in my lower back (like a ton of bricks are on the sacrum area of my back) & with vicious stabs to the right of my navel. I've tried amitriptyline for the pain but it didn't seem to help a great deal & it made me even more tired so I knocked it on the head. As long as I'm not feeling pukey, I find a hot water bottle & a hot bath good for pain relief.

I discovered this forum a couple of months ago & it's a great place with lots of lovely people. Hope you get some relief ASAP.
