Does anyone else find themselves doing this?

So, a few weeks ago, I had a really bad flare. I've felt better the past few weeks, but at times I still have my own set of problems, which I'm sure you can all relate to.

Anywho!

The past 2 weeks I've noticed that I've been skipping meals because I know, as soon as I eat, I'm going to feel like I'm carrying a giant "food baby."

So basically, I am in the mind set, "Do not eat, it's going to hurt!" Does anyone else do this?

I'm just starting to eat again b/c I'm FINALLY starting to feel a little better - knock on wood, people!!!

But before, I was barely eating. I didn't eat breakfast, and then wouldn't realize that I hadn't had anything to eat until around 3 or 4pm.

I don't have food babies - that would be too cute and socially-acceptable. I have D and G babies...

Hi, yeah, I skip meals. I won't eat if I'm not at home because of the whole proximity to toilet issue. I don't know how this is going to pan out when I go back to work on Monday. It's hard to keep energy levels up with no food but the alternative doesn't bear thinking about. I find that I don't tend to get hungry when I'm not at home. The fear of what could happen must suppress my hunger I suppose. I won't want to eat much after work either because the following morning will be dreadful & I won't be able to get out of the door on time. Similar situation with breakfast really. Hah, when on earth do I eat?!!!!!

Hi I can really get this I tend to miss meals as I think oh my god what if I need to run to the loo. I find it really hard when at work. Today I have a big meeting in a hotel in London and I even only had a sandwich last night and will not eat all day. It going to be hard as after the meeting there is a sit down meal with all my bosses which I am dreading, i will probably just push most of the food around the plate as I am really scared I will have an accident. I always keep spare clothes with me and wet wipes but the anxiety does not seem to help either!

Yeah & a lot of people think I'm a total oddball for not eating. They see my matchstick arms & my pasty face & assume I have some form of eating disorder. I suppose it is disordered eating though.

Yes sometimes I feel better if i don't eat b/c eating causes so many problems like gas and the belly baby. But it is just so hard. Sometimes you are not hungry. But other times you are but you know if you eat especially if you are out and can't find the toiti.

I've recently lost a stone in weight (14lbs). I did this deliberately because I was just getting too fat. But I actually found I felt better for eating less and skipping some meals. Probably not a healthy approach, though and I'm trying to be a bit more sensible about it. Not eating too much in one sitting works for me, and I think that eating a little and often is a good way to go.

I have an eating disorder, I have done for about 6 years now, for me it's not just skipping meals it's avoiding food at all costs the majority of the time, I will resort to purging often. I was getting better up until about February 2008 until I caved and made myself sick again. From the point I became ill with Crohn's however I had yet another excuse and another fear stamped into my head of what would happen if I ate symptom wise, regardless of my weight which forever dwindles downwards. I was asked to go back on an NG tube in January but I didn't. It is something I desperately need to sort out, I realise that and I have made steps in that direction. But truely I don't think I will be able to help myself until my Crohn's improves and generally I have a better sense of wellbeing.

Jilly - it's kinda funny that you brought that up yesterday. Remember I told you that I'm feeling better lately? I guess my appetite is better as well. I ate sooo much yesterday (graham crackers, 1/2 cheese calzone from the night before, 2 bags of 100 calorie popcorn, an apple, 2 Reduced-Fat Chips Ahoy cookies, a bagel, and a peanut butter shake!!!!!).

How's the appetite?

I do the same thing. I've got to the point now where I think about where I am and should I eat or not. If I plan on going somewhere after eating, I will end up not eating. Booo....

When I went to Oregon in August I didn't eat anything after I ate lunch at work. I had a 7 hour drive ahead of me and all I kept thinking was "if I eat, then I will have to pull over to poop." I didn't eat until the next afternoon for lunch.

I do it all the time. It's like this disease effects more than your GI tract. It messes with your head too.

Yeah I understand that one too, but then again when I have to think about whether to eat or not it does have some level of control of me. Damn Crohns

I don't like shopping either for several reasons. I hate when I go shopping and find something that's just absolutely adorable and then it wouldn't fit or look good or anything. It's frustrated. If I eat and go shopping I might as well shop in the maternity clothes. Screw it. I'm just tired of it all.

Don't feel so bad, I get kinda jealous of Ian too. hehe I haven't had a drink since ... um .... December I think. I'm not a huge drinker anyway, but I still enjoyed having those days where me and my friend threw a few, ok alot, back. I wish I had the time and everything to take Thursday to myself every night. hehe But .... power to you Ian! I'm just happy for you that you can.

It's not certain foods, the past few weeks it seems to be all foods. Today's menu was:

2 bites of a fiber bar
1/2 glass of oj
2 bites of noodles & 1 bite of a piece of grilled chicken
2 bottles of water

That's it. I had lunch at 1:30 today, it's now 5:30 & I still do not feel like eating.

Rissy...see the post above LOL Glad to see you were able to eat some yummy stuff today!!!!

Peaches & Turtle...actually, it seems the only thing my body can actually hold in is vodka.....is that odd? LOL I am actually being serious. The only night I do not have D is on Thursdays....it usually hits sometime on Friday afternoon, but nothing at all on Thursdays. Maybe vodka is the cure we're all looking for

I hope you all don't mind if I join in

I'm working from home now, fortunately, so I'm not too scared to eat but never eat when I go out. It was awful when I was working. I would get so hungry and I'd see other people eating and want some too. Sometimes it was okay, other times I'd spend the rest of the day rushing to the loo. It was really embarrassing and stressful, so it was easier to stay hungry.

One other thing this made me think of: do you ever get people trying to bully you into eating when you know you shouldn't? Or trying to get you to eat foods you know you shouldn't have?

I can't be the only person who has friends and relatives who seem to think they know better than I do about what I should or shouldn't eat, and who often say things like, "But just try it, you'll like it." They just don't seem to understand that it's nothing to do with liking or disliking food. I'm not refusing to eat certain things just because I'm being picky or difficult.

Even my own husband says things like, "Oh, that's right, you don't like onions". That's when I could cheerfully hit him! My standard reply now is always "Yes, I like X but it doesn't like me."

So who else finds that friends and family just don't "get it"?
