Ugh! In Limbo again, still no diagnosis....

I saw my GI on Wednesday, well ex GI now. She said that there maybe, a little bit of IBD starting. She asked if the Pentasa helped, I told her no so she took me off of it. She told me the next step will be a pill cam, but that could be a wait of months and months. She then said she doesn't think she can help me, it's obviously not a gut issue. I show some signs of crohns but not all, so she won't diagnose me (in other words, I'm fat so it CAN'T be crohns). I left her office with no follow up appointment, nothing. So now I am not being treated for the inflammation that has been simmering in my terminal ileum for who knows how long, and not being treated at all.

I went to see my GP on Thursday after seeing her and asked for a referral to another GI. He asked why and I told him what happened. He goes to look at my file and sees she hasn't sent a single report to him in the 18 months I have been seeing her. He is getting my files and sending the referral but in the meantime I am waiting still Could be months until I see someone again. I am so flipping frustrated right now. Thanks for letting me vent

How awful, I'm sorry to hear you were treated so poorly. For what it's worth, there's a support group on the forum for overweight Crohnies, so it certainly is possible to both be overweight and have IBD, and it was just plain wrong that you were treated that way. I am glad to hear that she's your ex GI now, I hope you can find a new GI who treats you much better and takes you seriously.

It sounds like you're in for a long wait for a new GI - I don't suppose you could just put the request in for the pill cam in the meantime while you're waiting? Is there anything else your GP can do for you in the meantime, any other tests they can run or meds they can try on you?

Hi Cat,

The request is in for the pill cam as far as I know. My GP, though sympathetic, can only do so much for me, because it's not his area of expertise. He has tried all the meds he's allowed to prescribe, and none seem to work. I love the fact that Canadian healthcare is free, but it really sucks to wait I am terrified that I will suddenly deteriorate and get too sick and my husband won't be able to work because he will have to take care of me.

Thank you for the info on the support group, heading there right away

If it makes you feel any better, I pay thousands of dollars out of pocket for my health care (insurance only covers so much) and I still have long waits quite often. But that's another rant for another thread.

I'm glad you have the pill cam request in, I hope you can have it relatively soon. I'm glad your GP has done everything they can, it sucks that it sounds like your options are pretty limited right now. Take care of yourself as best as you can in the meantime, try not to stress out too much (I know that's easier said than done). Try not to worry too much about the "what if"s and just take it day by day. Hopefully the time will go by quickly while you're waiting for the pill cam and new GI. Hang in there!
