I read about this the other day and looked into the gene they identified.

It's the SLC39A8 gene that controls zinc metabolism and the uptake of zinc, which is important to downregulate inflammatory responses. Zinc plays a role in controlling the negative feedback loop that helps the body finely balance inflammation to help maximize defense while minimizing collateral damage.

If you've frequented some of the homeopathic/self-help sites,you might have encountered talk of zinc carnosine or other zinc supplements to help counter some forms of stomach and intestinal ulceration and inflammation. That may have something something to do with these pathways.
