Dark Green

Hello All

My little Thomas is 3 years old and suffers horribly with his bowels. Hes had this very dark green sticky poops for a while now, sometimes he will become very distressed and then get blisters all over his mouth for about a week then it will die down. He's never had any blood in his bowels.

I was told that it maybe be high iron levels or eating green foods But - Thomas has very low ferritin and iron levels and he doesn't eat ANY food He's on a milk called pediasure fibre 4x a day plus water and juice.

I was thinking at 1st maybe IBD but he only suffers extreme constipation and very rarely diarrheah unless he's impacted.

We are on the waiting list for a colonoscopy and endoscopy but it can take unto 6 months

Is anyone going through the same might have some answers

DS was dx at 7
Hardly ever had diarrhea only severe constipation
Green can mean it's going through too quickly or just be simply how he is reacting to the formula
Neocate Jr ( elemental formula ) - causes green sticky bm for lots of kids

Can you switch formula from pediasure ( whole proteins )
To pediasure peptide ( semi elemental ) ?
How much juice ?? Too much sugar can sometimes cause issues in some kids
Especially juice
Ds can't drink any juice at all

Can they do a fecal caloprotectin test( stool test)?
This will tell them if he has inflammation in his gut

Thomas has Autism and is very fussy and what he has now.

Will only drink if it white or orange. Sometimes will tolerate water. I can ask if we can look into changing his milk see if that makes it better for him.

They have been dragging it out a bit because of his age. But he's now been getting these blisters around his mouth whenever he has severe bowel blockage or really thick putty like stools that stick to him. He is also losing weight and is now on Pro Cal shots which goes into his milk twice a day.

Sorry to hear the troubles your little guy is having. My son was dx'd at age 8, but he was another who only suffered from constipation. I would say it's time for your medical team to start investigating the cause. I second the fecal calprotectin test. Also, bloodwork and MRE may be involved in determining the cause, with scopes and biopsies confirming a diagnosis. Hope you get to the bottom of it soon and get your little guy feeling better.

Very sorry to hear about your little guy. My younger daughter presents with constipation. We never would have known she had Crohn's if it wasn't for her older sister having it and my I insisting she had a fecal calprotectin stool test to check for inflammation. When it came back positive the doctor then sent us to see the GI.

My son had green poo, mushy and large at diagnosis. (Pretty much still the same, just not green anymore).. He also got mouth ulcers inside his mouth. If you call the dr and tell them that he is in pain or something, maybe they will move your appt up? I don't know, but wish you much luck....just keep calling, maybe they will have a cancellation or something?
