Tricyclic antidepressants

Hello, currently i have IBS diagnose. I have low calpro, negative colonoscopy i and good blood test results. My question is: is it possible to have Crohn's disease and tricyclic antidepressants mask (hide) the symptoms. I am taking clomipramine and my diarrhoea stopped as well as my pain. But I am still worried that i might be dying of Crohn's disease. Is it possible for clomipramine to just mask (hide) Crohn's symptoms?

I don't know about crohn's, but one of the tricyclics (amitryptiline) masked my celiac disease. I took it to prevent migraines and when I came off it I began to have severe abdominal pain. When I was diagnosed about six weeks into the pain my GI thought I'd had it since the birth of my third child two years previously. What are the symptoms that led to your colonoscopy and other tests?

diarrhea, constant abdominal pain i mean pain every minute and every second. I have 20 calprotectin tests all negative, negative colonoscopy and normal blood test results ( low CRP and ESR and normal CBC). Doctors told me that TCAs cant hide my symptoms if there is organic cause.

The tricyclic antidepressants do also stop diarhea and for healthy persons they will cause hard stool as a result of the anticholinergic effect this medicines have on your cells.
Such medicines will maybe help for diarhea, but I´m not sure that they will heal Crohn´s desease..

I think your doctors should do some imaging of your stomach and entire small intestine. Are you losing weight? Amitryptiline certainly masked celiac disease for me; have you been tested for celiac disease?

Tricyclics can mask symptoms. They dull pain and lessen diarrhea.
That is why doctors prescribe it to some ibs patients as a treatment.
But if your CBC, CRP and calprotectin is normal. And you had a normal colonoscopy.

It is very likely that you suffer from some ibs or microscopic colitis. They do overlap. And ibs can be terrible and very painful for some.
If you still worry ask doctor to draw blood as a basic celiac screen. Cheap and easy test.
