So I was just officially diagnosed two weeks ago. I just got to the point where I could't live the way I have been any more. I have been suffering from symptoms since I was about 12. I guess I just learned to live with it. I decided to go to a specialist after a visit to the ER with intense pain. They told me it was due to stress and that I was ok. I knew better so I got the tests and now I FINALLY know what has been my problem all of these years.

I can't wait to dig in and pick everyone's brains for advice.

Welcome to the forum! I am sorry that you have just been diagnosed, but I hope you realize that this is not a huge deal, especially since you have already been suffering. There is no life expectancy issues for people with IBD (we all live long normal length lives) and many people go years with no symptoms. Feel free to ask anything. May I ask how old you are now (to see how many years you have had symptoms)?

Welcome to the club Stuffette... (Oh, geeze, I almost wrote Smurfette - apologies)
{I never could understand what my kids saw in those cartoons)... Anyway, you aren't alone in this,,, AND getting an "OFFICIAL" diagnosis is a real bonus. I am on
my 3rd GI specialist (who is great, BTW) and still they can't officially decide if mine is Crohns or Ulcerative colitis (although they're leaning toward Crohns - clouded by my numerous other complications)... But enuff bout me, back to you (in a way).
I'd take heed of the 'stress' ER diagnosis. I dunno why, but my worst flare ups always follow any periods of stress in my life... And some of the hints/advice that I picked up here have greatly improved my condition. So, welcome aboard, and all the best to you. PS... And since I almost called you smurfette, you and you alone
can refer to me as 'ole fart' .... Hmmmm, I don't have that tee-shirt yet. Peculiar!!

I am now 32 so I have had symptoms for about 20 years. I can specifically remember flair ups during certain times in my life, especially in college 12 years ago. Things got really bad lately after I had my daughter.

After reading other people's stories I realize that I don't have things that bad. I still have to meet with my DR for the results of my upper gi. I am hoping for the best.
