Scalded mouth feeling and ulcers etc

Hey everyone,

Thought I would mention I was chatting to my gastro nurse yesteday during my remicade about having a sore mouth alot more of late.

Was telling her I was getting ulcers but also that my mouth in general felt like it had been scalded. Toothpaste burns no matter how mild I have it for instance. Can only tolerate warm drinks etc.

She asked if I had looked at benzoates - which I had excluded previously but gradually let creep back into my diet.

Also asked if I ate alot of cinnamon.

She was telling me that another patient she sees had the same problems as me and they asked them to go benzoic acid and cinnamon free in their diet.

Apparently it worked and their mouth has healed.

So I guess for me its back to more restrictions again and see how things go eh?

Will keep you posted.

Things are pretty manic still for me on top of the fact that I just literally couldnt get online since moving in with Duncan. I kept trying with his comp but the site kept chucking me out for some reason. Anyway, am back on my own system now and things are fine.

Work is good. Am enjoying the new job. Might at some point reduce my hours but will see how things go.

Have been referred to a specialist pain team in London so waiting to hear from them. Also going through more tests to rule out other autoimmune issues. Might need to have surgery on my shoulder too at some point as they think I may have a deep muscle tear that has never healed!

Duncan is having surgery on both hands today week. On top of this our kitchen is currently being replaced so we are eating out/take away every night! LOL

Anyway, thought I would do the above post in case anyone else had any thoughts on it.

Hope you are all doing ok. Have missed you all!!

((hugs))

Funnily enough... I find hot drinks and toothpaste much harsher than I used to. So what's 'benzoate' in?

Glad to see you back Soup!

Hey Steve,

Thanks. Will need to do some catching up with you. Read in another thread that you are heading for job changes around the time I get married.

Hi Beth,

Thanks honey! I cant for the life of me think at the mo - brain has turned to sludge. Will hunt out my benzoic acid sheet that the dietitian did for me and post it here..

Hiya Farm,

Thanks for the welcome back. Have missed everyone! See you have done the odd post or two LOL

Violetcreams,

How you doing honey?

Hi Jan, I'd be interested in those diet things too.

I actually have had periods of feeling like I had a burnt tongue on and off for a long time. But I never could match it up with having eaten anything too hot! I guess it may be a Crohn's thing too!

Hi Jan...
Yes, I'm being made redundant from 30 September 2010. They can't let me go before then as they haven't got anyone to do the work (crazy or what?)
Been meaning to start a thread about it but the time keeps racing away and I now accept this as a good thing, especially as far as a stress-free life is concerned. The really good news is that we've calculated that my wife will be able to give up work too... she works for that organisation you may have heard of... the NHS.
Just a shame that after 33 years I'm going out with a whimper rather than a bang...
You'll also be counting down the days until then, for entirely different reasons
