So I have been reading around the forums and haven't really found much on this topic.. maybe I haven't looked well enough.. haha. Can people who have Crohn's drink alcohol? I don't drink much and haven't touched it since I started all the steroid medications cause I heard it's not a good combo. But when you're off of steroids, can you drink? Does it affect anything going on with this disease? Danielle |

Hi Danielle,
I think the biggest problem is the medications you take for your Crohn's which would pose the biggest obstacle to drinking. I have friends who have Crohn's that drink all the time, but they aren't taking any medications that would be affected. I would check the labels of what you are taking, and if none of them say to avoid drinking, give it a go - if you don't feel well afterwards, you have your answer of whether you can drink or not. =) Good health and best of luck. |

I'm pretty sure are asking for liver damage if you are taking infliximab/zathioprine/corticosteroids so you probably want to avoid.
If not on drugs, like Dustin said it's what your body can take. I for one cannot drink much of anything even if I am not flaring/on drugs ![]() -JD |

I think it varies from person to person. I can usually drink in moderation when I am not flaring.
It might depend on what type of alcohol too. I find that not drinking so much helps me get a better buzz when I do drink though =) |

Hi Danielle
I've not had a drink for 9 months for one reason and another, but prior to that, I drank in moderation every weekend (vodka) and it crippled me for a week, terrible D and cramps, and like I had flu! and I've changed drinks many times over the years, clear spirits like vodka being less traumatic. lager a big no no but I'm not touching it at all whilst on Pred (head is cabbaged enough!) oh, and you can't drink with metronidozole, very dangerous. so i suppose it depends on the person, and their type of Crohns xxx
