Barium Enema

Barium Enema

A Barium Enema helps diagnose problems with the colon. A Barium Enema, also called a Lower GI (Gastrointestinal) Series, involves placing a tube in the rectum through which a Barium Sulfate solution will flow into the colon.

The Barium shows up clearly on the X-Ray film and can show if the Colon is shaped normally, or if there are Strictures or Intestinal Obstruction.
