About Immunosuppressants

An Immunosuppressant is any substance that lowers the immune response. Effects can be positive (as in cases of Inflammation) or negative (by lowering the body's ability to fight infection).

People that are Immunosuppressed are recommended to have certain Vaccines because they are at risk for complications of infection. Immunosuppressed patients should not receive "Live" - type Vaccines. As always, check with your doctor about your personal situation.

An Immunosuppressant can be used as a medication in patients with certain diseases, like Crohn's Disease
