Macrophage

Macrophages are a type of cell called a Phagocyte which are created by the differentiation of Monocytes. Their job is to engulf (Phagocytize) pathogens and cellular debris.

It has been shown that Vitamin D directly influences macrophages by increasing their "oxidative burst" potential (maturation and production of Cytokines, acid phosphatase and hydrogen peroxide), and prevent excessive expression of Inflammatory cytokines.[1]
