Pain

Pain is common to many diseases and conditions including Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, and other IBDs. Certain Treatments may even exacerbate Pain.

Inflammation, especially Chronic Inflammation can cause a Hyper-Response to Pain, called Hyperalgesia.

Chronic Pain and Chronic Inflammation often seen in IBDs often cause symptoms of Fatigue and Depression.

Treatment for Pain

A combination of both Vitamin C and Vitamin E reduces Neuropathic Pain but not pain due to Inflammation [2]
---- Pain reduction is seen with both Vitamin C and Vitamin E in combination but not with supplementation of either vitamin alone.
---- The pain reducing effects seen by Vitamin C & E administration is thought to be due to their antioxidant effects. Specifically, the damaging and pain producing factors called Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) are removed by these antioxidant vitamins. Vitamin C helps to essentially "recycle" the antioxidant ability of "used" Vitamin E, allowing Vitamin E to continue its antioxidant effects.
