Taper

To Taper, in the context of medication, refers to a gradual reduction in dose of a medication, often before stopping the medication completely. Tapering is usually done to reduce the likelihood of unwanted or dangerous side effects (such as Steroid Withdrawal Syndrome) that might arise from immediately stopping a medication.

Tapering is often done with Antidepressants, Anticonvulsants, or Steroids, especially when they have been taken for longer periods of time.
