The Crohnicle
Welcome to the third issue of The Crohnicle,'s quarterly newsletter, collaboratively created by the staff and amazing members. We hope this year has been a good one for you thus far.

We Need Your Help

Believe it or not, over 100,000 unique visitors came to in the last 30 days! Many new members who join each day and some veteran members are forever in need of support. You don't necessarily need to have answers to questions. Even replies wishing people well are appreciated. Please help us support those in need.

Recent Changes to

We've been hard at work adding new features over the last few months. Some of these include:

- Wikilinks - This software modification ties into our article wiki. For example, we have a wiki article on "Vitamin D". If someone mentions vitamin D in a post, then it automatically links to the wiki article on vitamin D. That article provides information and also provides a list of other popular threads discussing vitamin D. This modification is part of our ongoing effort to better organize and present information.

- We've created a new subforum, "Tests for IBD" to help provide information and support regarding the various tests associated with inflammatory bowel disease. Check it out.

- We've created a list of ways you can help around the community and thus help others with IBD located here.

- Additional Support Requests - It breaks our heart when someone asks for help and doesn't get the support they deserve. Therefore, we wrote a software program that helps alleviate that. A few days after a thread is created, if the thread doesn't get many responses, an email is sent to the author asking if they'd like additional support. If they do, a single click of a link alerts others in our Additional Support forum. You can keep an eye out for such requests here

Knowledge is Power

- Are you going to potentially start a treatment regimen that involves Imuran or 6MP? Thiopurine S-methyltransferase (whew!) also known as TPMT, is a test taken prior to taking either of these drugs to determine the potential for serious side effects and dosing. Learn more.

- Fecal Calprotectin is a stool test that measures levels of a protein (Calprotectin) found in inflammatory cells. Learn how it might be of use to you and your doctor by following this link.

Diet and Fitness

- The new year is here. Why don't you brush (or shovel) off the cobwebs from those running shoes, weights, swim trunks, or whatever and join others in our 2012 get fit and healthy thread. It'll make you one of the cool kids. Everyone's doing it. You know you want to.

- For the rest of us who can't be bothered, how about some gluten-free, sugar-free, dairy-free banana bread? Hmmmm delicious.

Thank you

As always, thank you to the countless unsung heroes that make a support forum like a success. Without the members out there who are providing answers and support on a daily basis, often while suffering in one way or another themselves, such a community would not be possible. You are absolutely incredible people. Thank you for all that you do.

When the doc gives you an order for a scope,
And you're really not sure you can cope,
Just drink your GoLitely,
And clench your fists tightly,
and get to the bathroom weyhey!

Need a laugh? Like a good limerick? Then check out our thread titled, "Rhyme a Line at a Time" located here.
