Colonoscopy & gastroscopy looked normal but biopsies taken

I thought this would get me closer to a diagnosis but apparently everything looked normal and my bleeding "must" be caused by haemeroids even though the doctor couldn't see any!

He did take several biopsies and said my GP would be sent the gastroscopy results and the consultant would discuss the colonoscopy ones at my next outpatient appointment in December (I'm in the UK and that's the first one they would give me even though at my first appointment the specialist said she wanted to see me in 4 weeks!) Thinking of paying to go private.

Feel frustrated and wondering if I am making up my symptoms? :frown:

You have seen visible blood, right? If so you are not making up your symptoms. It's pretty hard to mistake blood, except perhaps if you have been eating a lot of brightly- colored red food.

Have you had blood work done? If so is your hemoglobin and/or ferritin low, or are there any other signs of anemia? In your appointment in December ask the GI to propose an explanation for the visible blood in the context of the colonoscopy results.

Yep! Just feeling like a hypochondriac. :(

Had blood tests too and they are normal.

I know exactly how you feel. I was seeing a GI doctor and getting all the tests done - including endoscopy and colonoscopy - and bloodwork done and none of them revealed my problem. It makes you feel like a hypochondriac - especially if you had a doctor like mine who attributed it to a disorder you already had and called it "simple IBS." It took a trip to the ER to cause alarm bells to go off in my GP and OB/Gyn's head. My OB/Gyn actually took the most time with me and went over my whole medical history and then did a pelvic ultrasound. He was the one who got me a diagnosis of endometriosis (to be confirmed by surgery next month) and put a stop to the whole hypochondriac thing.

I guess what I'm trying to say is don't stop looking for answers. You know that you don't feel right. I'm not saying you have what I have, but do think about causative factors other than GI problems. Sometimes, other problems - including endometriosis - manifest as gastrointestinal disorders. Endometriosis sometimes causes anemia, but I don't have iron deficiency or B12 deficiency. Everything always shows up normal on bloodwork.

Well...my GP rang today, the biopsies are all fine BUT the consultant looked back at the images from the colonoscopy and saw swelling in the rectum so I have to go back for a sigmoidoscopy now :(
